Cross Phase Transfer Day : 3rd June, 2016
On Friday 3rd June all children going to ESF secondary schools will visit their respective schools and spend the day finding out more about what life will be like for them when they start in August.
Letters will go home next week from the secondary schools with more information and you will more than likely be informed of your child’s ‘house’ and the children will possibly need to go along dressed in their new house colours. But, please……find out more from the letters sent home next week.
Island School children will be bused up from Hong Kong station to Island School that day but will need to meet their parents at Island School at 2:30pm to attend a parent and student welcome information session. BHS will not be providing transport home from Island School on this day.
More information about these procedures and information regarding other schools will come out next week also.
If your child is not attending an ESF Secondary School there is no school for them here at BHS on that day.
End of Year 6 Graduation – More details will be sent to you in the next few weeks but in the meantime, please give some thought to what your child will wear. It is an important event in the children’s school life and therefore we expect them to be dressed in smart/special event clothing for the ceremony. The dress code for the past few years has been…..
- suits for boys (or at the very least a dress shirt and trousers and tie), or traditional dress, dress shoes
- semi-formal party dresses for girls (or a pant-suit), or traditional dress, dress shoes
- no denim or shorts or flip flops
I have found some examples on the internet……….so you get what we mean.
What an amazing week!!!!
This week we…
….presented during Golden Book Assembly
..
…finished off journals, English presentations, Mandarin presentations….
….set up our boards….
….worked together collaboratively….
…finished our final Action Boards ready for the night….
….had a great time sharing our learning with our family and friends….
….performed again and shared our learning with the school and community…,
…and had loads of fun doing it!!!
What a great Exhibition on Tuesday night and Wednesday too.
I am sure you will agree that the children did an amazing job this week and each and every one of us was so very proud of the whole bunch. They were true ambassadors for BHS and the PYP. All of this would not have been possible without the commitment and enthusiasm of the children but also from the help of some very special advisers. Ms Jeves worked tirelessly throughout each week with the children on their research skills and information literacy skills and also they had lots of input from Mr Pheasant, Ms Chung, Ms Dewhurst and Mr Harrison – so thanks very much to our leadership team and to our Mandarin department too.
Another amazing group of helpers were our fantastic mentors who gave up so much of their free time to work with your children. Maybe you could have a chat to you child about a kind way to show their appreciation to their mentors and to Miss Kannis too.
All photos that we took throughout the process and and the videos that we made and that the children made are available on the school website so you can take a look again or have fun viewing some of the work that you have not seen yet
Year 6 Production
On Thursday we held our auditions for our Year 6 Production, ‘Once on This Island’. A wonderful effort to all the courageous children who got up an had a go. The children were informed of the main roles this morning and a full cast list will come out soon. Every child will be involved and every child will be on stage at some point. If you think you may be able to help out eg. dance, drama workshops, make-up and hair on the evening, costume sourcing, costume ironing etc please give your class teacher a shout.
We all look forward to seeing this show in just a few short weeks! Wish us luck.

- 3rd LoI written with the help of our special advisers and it will pertain to the issue chosen by the group

Learner Profile : the children will try and focus on all LPs
Attitudes : the children will try and focus on all the attitudes
Central Idea – Geometric tools and methods can be used to solve problems relating to shape and space.
Number Maths – Computation
Central Idea – Strategies for whole number computation can apply to fractional and decimal computation.
Throughout this production unit of inquiry we will be working on these above Maths concepts and also on consolidating work some throughout this year.
Over the next week or so we will be finishing off any bits and pieces that need a little work in your Exhibition journals just so they are totally complete. We will also be reflecting on the last 8 weeks. These will come home shortly so you can have a really good look at the fabulous work they did over the last few months.
We will also be working on our Autobiography writing again and if they haven’t done so already they will be planning and writing out their life story so far….and writing the future as well – so a little narrative writing here too!
We will also be looking at the ‘Once on this Island’ play scripts so if your child hasn’t read it yet there’s a little light weekend reading. It contains some tricky vocab and some foreign words which the children could investigate.
Spelling : specific investigation tasks set by your teacher.
Reading : Children need to ensure they are reading at home each night for at least 20 mins and to write one weekly reflection about their reading in their diaries. Parents are not required to write a comment or to sign the book. However, continued interest and involvement in your child’s reading would be appreciated and will assist in their development.
UOI – please make sure you have read our ‘Once on this Island’ play script. Start learning your lines, get familiar with your part and songs, identify any tricky or foreign vocabulary and find out what they mean.
Number Maths :
- All Number Maths Groups : Mathletics.
