After a wet day on Tuesday we were lucky to see the sun for long enough to all get together and have a group photograph. It was so nice to see all of the children together representing the human rights that they are taking action to uphold.
The exhibition journals are now bursting with life. The children have represented their learning is so many different ways. Our journals show how the children have researched human rights, chosen their passion, found out more and planned their action. The children have reflected on their learning throughout the process to make improvements along the way. You are going to love looking through these interesting journals on exhibition evening.
Year 6 Unit of Inquiry 5
Transdisciplinary Theme : How We Organise Ourselves
Central Idea : Individual and group action makes a difference to how societies uphold human rights.
Lines of Inquiry – We will inquire into…
- action that can be taken to uphold people’s rights
- 2nd LoI written with the help of our special advisers and it will pertain to the issue chosen by the group
- 3rd LoI written with the help of our special advisers and it will pertain to the issue chosen by the group
Concepts : the children will review all concepts
Learner Profile : the children will try and focus on all LPs
Attitudes : the children will try and focus on all the attitudes
Strand Maths – Data Handling
Central Idea : Data can be presented effectively for valid interpretation and communication.
As the end of the Exhibition approaches, the children are working in groups to review their findings, draw conclusions from the data they have collected and present these to a wider audience.
Year 6 have created non-chronological reports on their chosen human rights projects. Each child has contributed to creating the report. After completing these reports with the help of their class teachers and Ms Jeeves the children self assessed them and added them to their already impressive exhibition journals.
Please continue to keep your spelling journals in school unless your class teacher tells you otherwise.
Book Fest 2016
Congratulations to the best dressed in Year 6.
Emma Hui – 6H
Jessica Zhou – 6L
Audrea Lee – 6F
You can see pictures of them in their fantastic outfits on display in the library.
UOI : continue work for your Exhibition. Each class teacher will give more specific instructions about what you might need to do in order to get ready for your exhibition. Make sure that you know your stuff! Spend the weekend making sure you know the answers to the questions that you have included on your exhibition boards. You have all worked so hard and we are already proud of you so don’t forget to take a break also.
Brace and Hall of Fame Continue to learn the words and practise playing your instruments. Although, we have to say, we have been very impressed with how well the children have learnt the lyrics. Thank you, all! We really appreciate it.
If any children are playing instruments please keep up the rehearsing at home. We had our first whole Year 6 rehearsal on Thursday and it is sounding good, but it needs to be sounding excellent by the time the exhibition evening is upon us.
Spelling : Spelling Journals – Additional journal tasks set by the class teacher.
Reading : Weekly reflections to be completed at least once a week. Children need to ensure they are reading at home each night for at least 20 mins and to write one weekly reflection about their reading in their diaries. Parents are not required to write a comment or to sign the book. However, continued interest and involvement in your child’s reading would be appreciated and will assist in their development.
Number Maths :
- All Number Maths Groups : Mathletics and keep checking in on you survey results ready to make graphs, tables and write conclusions.
Thought of the Week : Something to think about when presenting your learning at the Exhibition!
