REAL-LIFE ACTION
Beacon Hill School had a delivery of promotional books this week, one for each child – how nice! However, every single book was wrapped in its very own bag. 6H gathered every bag which totalled to over 540 individual pieces of plastic, very worrying for our environment. So, 6H decided to take action, each student has written a letter and they will be sent to the company next week, along with the hundreds of bags. Hopefully, the company will change their ways and help to look after our world by reducing the amount of plastic that they use.
Think of ways that you can reduce waste at home. We need to be on the same page to make a difference, at home and at school.
Oh wait! There’s more action!
As you know, they Year 5s held their Big Business event in the hall on Thursday This was a brilliant event as the children enjoyed it very much. However, the event generated a lot of plastic waste. So three students, led by Stacey in 6H, decided to take a plastic recycling bin into the hall – not before checking with Mr Pheasant first of course.
Simple and effective action, well done guys!

Central Idea – Measurement
A range of procedures exist to measure different attributes of object and events.
We have continued to find ways of answering open-ended volume problems and we’ve also been discussion the relationship between volume and capacity.
Number Maths
Central Idea – Pattern and Function
Patterns can be represented, analysed and generalised using algebraic expressions, equations or functions.
Because of our amazing week of Maths Literacy we have been looking at the story that represents the world as 100 people. Year 6 have been comparing data from 2006 and 2016 and seeing what improvements have been made to the world. After comparing data, the children then presented the data in different ways.
Watch this video with your children
This is a really exciting unit that will look at many different forms of poetry. We will be learning how to write imaginative, creative and emotive poems. We are hoping to link our poems with the Global Goals. This week 6H performed their rap poems and began to make a music video. Here are some pictures of 6H in action.
PYPX Research – The students have been provided with various note-taking formats and graphic organisers in order for them to make the most of their research. The last research session is on Monday, the children will then be placed in their exhibition groups – exciting times!
Here’s some good Home Learning ideas for you to have a go of over the next week or so….
- How are you going to take ACTION?
- Talk to your parents – How can they help you? Remember, the issues we are dealing with don’t disappear when you leave the classroom. Let’s make a difference!
- Please watch/re-watch any of the videos that we have shared in class – check to see if they are relevant to you and your Global Goal.
- Continue or finish off a Blend-space about your Global Goal
- Create a KWHL Lucidchart ready for your research teacher on Monday. (What I Know, What I Want to Know, How I will Find Out and What I Learned)
- Make sure you know how you are collecting notes and have that format ready to take to Monday’s research teacher.
- Continue collecting notes on your area of interest!
- Cite your sources on your sources doc.
- You should make sure you try to scan the newspapers every day and bring in any articles you find about your Global Goal (or any of the GGs…to help others!)
- Please work on the spelling activities that your class teacher has outlined with you.
- Don’t forget to continue on with Mathletics and Reading Eggs.
Thought of the Week….
Environmental Tip….
Find out what these plants are and see if you can grow some on your balcony or in your garden. Helping the butterflies flourish will have a positive impact on the food chain. Do your bit!
