Weather and Clothing – With the recent change in weather can we make sure that children are dressed appropriately for school. Layers are a good way of allowing the children to be comfortable, giving them the option to adjust their clothing when necessary. But please, not too many layers!
Layering your child with too much outerwear can actually make them colder. That’s because excess layers can cause your child to sweat, which makes their clothes wet, which allows the cold and wind to bring their temperature down.
Guests in school : Plastic free seas, Zero waste alliance
Visit to Sunshine Action / refugees
More Action – if any of the children are interested in getting started on taking some action for the PYPX outside of school here’s a family walk they could do to support the ISF Foundation…
Golden Book Certificates
Congratulations to our winners for the Golden Book this week…
- What the scientific inquiry is (form)
- How the scientific process is used (function)
- The application of the scientific process (many concepts)
Learner Profile : Inquirer and reflective
Attitudes : Curiosity and independence
This week we have kicked off this new UOI with a bang. The children have been learning about science through fun experiments that provoke a lot of questions. From friction to density, the children have been recording, asking questions and hypothesising over many different scientific principles, laws and theories.
Strand Maths
Central Idea – Measurement
A range of procedures exist to measure different attributes of object and events.
Check out these photos below of use finding ways of answering open ended volume problems.
Number Maths
Central Idea – Pattern and Function
Patterns can be represented, analysed and generalised using algebraic expressions, equations or functions.
This week we have been looking at various open ended maths problems to play with numbers and patterns. Next week we will look at practical examples of patterns and will be ready to impress you at the student led conference on Friday.
Out with the old – historical fiction. We finished up our historical fiction unit this week. The children created some fantastic story extracts, using he knowledge and skills learned from studying War Horse and Empire of the Sun.
In with the new – poetry. This is a really exciting unit that will look at many different forms of poetry. We will be learning how to write imaginative, creative and emotive poems. We are hoping to link our poems with the Global Goals. This week we watched music videos, Ted Talks and listened to emotive poems online to give us inspiration in the coming weeks.
Here’s some good Home Learning ideas for you to have a go of over the next week or so….
- Please watch/rewatch any of the videos that we have shared in class – check to see if they are relevant to you and your Global Goal.
- Maybe think about creating a Blendspace about your Global Goal
- You could check out Lucid Chart to try and create a mind-map or chart or table or fishbone diagram or any other fantastic pieces that is available to you on there
- Be ready to share something that you have found out about your Global Goal with your lead teacher on Monday 27th February
- You could make sure you try to scan the newspapers every day and bring in any articles you find about your Global Goal (or any of the GGs…to help others!)
- Please work on the spelling activities that your class teacher has outlined with you.
- Don’t forget to continue on with Mathletics and Reading Eggs.
