Change to 6D PE
Please note that from next week 6D will have PE on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s, this will continue until further notice.
Year 6 Arts Taster sessions – this year the Year 6s will take part in Arts Taster Sessions coming up in February or early March. We will be offering various ‘arts’ lessons for the children to choose from.  If you have a particular skill in the arts or know someone who could volunteer we would love to have you in to take a couple of lessons with a small group. It could be anything….dance, origami, collage, musical instrument, photography, sewing, puppetry etc absolutely anything! Just let us know and we can give you a little more info.

Weather and Clothing – With the recent change in weather can we make sure that children are dressed appropriately for school. Layers are a good way of allowing the children to be comfortable, giving them the option to adjust their clothing when necessary. But please, not too many layers!

Layering your child with too much outerwear can actually make them colder. That’s because excess layers can cause your child to sweat, which makes their clothes wet, which allows the cold and wind to bring their temperature down.

Year 1 Photos – As a surprise for our Year 6 graduates each year we create a special video to show at our graduations ceremony.  We use their Year 1 photograph so if your child was not here in Year 1 we need for you to please send in their Year 1 photograph from the school they were at.  If you don’t have the individual school photo can you please send us in an individual photo of your child around about that age.  Please send these to Miss Kannis

  • characteristics of past civilisations and societies (form)
  • the ways in which our society has been influenced by past societies (function)
  • connections between past discoveries and modern day advances (connection)

Concepts : form, function, connection

Learner Profile : knowledgeable, thinker, reflective

Attitudes : enthusiasm, appreciation

This week the children have continued to work on their Civilisation website. This is an exciting inquiry into the past and it allows the children to be able to research an area of interest to them that has had an impact on us today.

Strand Maths

Central Idea –  Data Handling

Range, mode, median and mean can be used to analyse statistical data.

Year six have been looking into the mathematical skills needed to determine range, mode, median and mean.

They have been discussing why it is important to find these points of reference in data they have collected.

Number Maths

Central Idea – Operations

We use the same rules for the computation of decimal fractions as for whole numbers.

Year 6 have been looking at efficient mental and written strategies for multiplication and division. Through practical lessons the children have combined their knowledge of measurement, timing and computation to inquire into speed, distance and reaction time.

Our current unit text type is Historical Fiction.  Historical Fiction is defined as movies and novels in which a story is made up but is set in the past and sometimes borrows true characteristics of the time period in which it is set. Please try and encourage your child to find a story that excites or interests them to read at home.

Year six have been writing extracts from the stories of War Horse and Empire of the Sun. We have really seen an improvement in the writing and creativity this week. Some fantastic work has been produced, using alliteration, personification and more. Good job Year 6!

  • Children should be making connections between their chosen global goal and issues that effect them personally or local challenges that are being faced in their community. They should be thinking of the action that could be taken to make a difference.
  • Children should be continuing with their weekly spelling and reading commitments at home.
  • Don’t forget to continue on with Mathletics and Reading Eggs
