Please remember that the children come with you to these appointments and they will discuss their learning with you visiting 4 stations around the room…it’s a great opportunity to hear what they have been doing in class and to listen to some targets from the class teacher to help each child be successful in our upcoming PYPX. If you are unable to make it to an appointment on the 3rd March can you please just let your class teacher know.
Weather and Clothing – With the recent change in weather can we make sure that children are dressed appropriately for school. Layers are a good way of allowing the children to be comfortable, giving them the option to adjust their clothing when necessary. But please, not too many layers!
Layering your child with too much outerwear can actually make them colder. That’s because excess layers can cause your child to sweat, which makes their clothes wet, which allows the cold and wind to bring their temperature down.

PYPX Launch 2 – On Monday we had the second part of our PYPX Launch. This time we came armed with 5 things that made our heart sing about our chosen Global Goal. We had a ‘give one, take one’ starter and then gathered together to watch Mr Thompson’s inspiring videos and pep-talk! The children then got into their groups (based under a general theme) with their lead teacher and had a chat about why this issue was important to them and what facts, issues and reasons jumped out at them and inspired them to choose this topic for their PYPX.
Taking Action – these three wonderful Year 6 children were ‘caught taking action’ down in the playground at lunch time. What a fantastic job…Michelle, Stacey and Justin. Keep up the fabulous work.
More Action – if any of the children are interested in getting started on taking some action for the PYPX outside of school here’s a family walk they could do to support the ISF Foundation…
Golden Book Certificates
Congratulations to our winners for the Golden Book this week…
Also, a big thank you to Darryl and Keisha for helping Mr Pheasant hand out the Golden Book certificate on Monday’s assembly.
- characteristics of past civilisations and societies (form)
- the ways in which our society has been influenced by past societies (function)
- connections between past discoveries and modern day advances (connection)
Concepts : form, function, connection
Learner Profile : knowledgeable, thinker, reflective
Attitudes : enthusiasm, appreciation
This week the children have continued to work on their Civilisation website. This is an exciting inquiry into the past and it really allows the children to be able to research an area of interest to them that has had an impact on us today.
Central Idea – Data Handling
Range, mode, median and mean can be used to analyse statistical data.
Year six have been looking into the mathematical skills needed to determine range, mode, median and mean.
They have been discussing why it is important to find these points of reference in data they have collected.
Number Maths
Central Idea – Operations
We use the same rules for the computation of decimal fractions as for whole numbers.
Year 6 have been looking at efficient mental and written strategies for multiplication and division. Through practical lessons the children have combined their knowledge of measurement, timing and computation to inquire into speed, distance and reaction time.
Our current unit text type is Historical Fiction. Historical Fiction is defined as movies and novels in which a story is made up but is set in the past and sometimes borrows true characteristics of the time period in which it is set. Please try and encourage your child to find a story that excites or interests them to read at home.
We have been refining our writing over the last few weeks. We have learned about the importance of making improvements to our original drafts of writing and trying to do just that! Next week we begin our new English unit…Poetry and will start off with performance poetry – that should be interesting!
Can all children finish up reading their Historical Fiction books over the weekend and return them to the boxes in the crush.
Here’s some good Home Learning ideas for you to have a go of over the next week or so….
- Please watch/rewatch any of the videos that we have shared in class – check to see if they are relevant to you and your Global Goal.
- Maybe think about creating a Blendspace about your Global Goal
- You could check out Lucid Chart to try and create a mind-map or chart or table or fishbone diagram or any other fantastic pieces that is available to you on there
- Be ready to share something that you have found out about your Global Goal with your lead teacher on Monday 27th February
- You could make sure you try to scan the newspapers every day and bring in any articles you find about your Global Goal (or any of the GGs…to help others!)
- Please work on the spelling activities that your class teacher has outlined with you.
- Don’t forget to continue on with Mathletics and Reading Eggs.
