Tuesday 30th August – Meet the Teacher Evening 6:30pm in the school hall
- Black/blue ballpoint pens
- HB pencils
- Pencil sharpener
- Eraser
- Transparent 30cm ruler
- Coloured pencils
- Felt tip pens/coloured markers
- highlighters (different colours)
- Scissors
- 2 glue sticks
- 2 black/blue whiteboard markers and a cloth eraser
- Calculator
- Geometry set
- Inexpensive headphones (on-ear or in-ear)
Please label all of the above items if possible. Any of the items can be bought at the school office, except the headphones. It really makes our lives easier if all of the children have the correct stationery at school.
Meet the teacher 30th August – This evening is quickly approaching and we are looking forward to informing you all about the exciting year ahead. If you cannot attend please let your child’s class teacher know so that you do not miss any important information.
Heat and Air index – Can you remind your children to check the posters before play times, just to make sure that the conditions are right and it is safe for them to run around.

Transdisciplinary Theme : Sharing the Planet

We have continued to “tune in” to our new unit of inquiry and all classes have looked at the different types of conflict that can arise and impact the quality of peoples lives. Some excellent discussion points have been talked about in all of the classes in Year 6 and we are starting to learn about the different types of conflict and how we can put them in to categories.

Year 6 are beginning to find out what their passions are as part of a new unit of inquiry called i-time. The children have been talking about what they are interested in through various activities. Here are some photos of the children talking about what they love and then creating some art work to express their interests.
Central Idea – Conversion of units and measurements allows us to make sense of the world we live in.
The children have continued to learn about measurement and how it is used in our daily lives. Year 6 have also completed a measurement jigsaw and then expressed how they used various mathematical skills when solving problems.
Number Maths – Place Value
Central Idea – The base 10 place value system extends infinitely in two directions.
This week Year 6 have started to learn more about place value and some number groups have carried out investigations into digits. Mr Hoskins’ group became digit detectives to find out how to solve various problems. Here are some pictures of them in action.
This week in English we have deconstructed exposition texts to find out how these texts are made and to learn what we need in order to make our own. We have also been working on our oral skills and having mini debates over different topics, such as whether or not we should have a longer school day. What do you think?
Learning Centre – we were all visited by Ms Jeeves who taught us how to formulate interesting and relevant questions that will help us in our learning, especially i-time.
Spelling : spelling activities in spelling journals will come home shortly
Reading : Reading homework and reading reflections are due to start soon
UOI – The students have been given a document that requires them to discuss with an adult whether junk food should be banned from children. Please help your children to discuss the pros and cons. The document has either been emailed, shared via google classroom or shared with them on google docs.
