We can’t believe that our first unit is pretty much finished. The children have worked incredibly hard and transferred their learning around positive emotional well being and a balanced life towards their summative assessment this week. They have thought about a variety of scenarios they have experienced or might experience in the future and thought carefully about the mindful strategies they could apply to resolve these scenarios. Try some mindful breathing, yoga, counting to ten, calm thoughts and more! Year 5 have also been writing furiously to complete their own modern narrative story. You have all done a great job at making your stories interesting for the reader! Our place value and probability units are coming to an end too, however remember, you might transfer these concepts into other areas of maths and UOI work. Be prepared for Unit 2!
Migration can have an impact on people and society
Lines of Inquiry:
- The reasons why people migrate (causation)
- Migration throughout history (causation)
- The challenges, risks and opportunities of migration (perspective)
Next week we shall start our second unit on Migration. We are hoping to have some guest speakers to come and visit Year 5 to talk of their experience and knowledge of migration. As an introduction to the unit we will explore a variety of stories which take us on a journey connected to migration as well as focus on images from the book ‘The Arrival’ by Shaun Tan to begin our thinking about the different stages of migration. All classes will start their rotations next week too, you will have the chance to take part in Music, Clay, Drama, writing poetry as well as time for personal inquiry.
Congratulations to our 3 Golden Book Winners this week.
5P- Andrea Ho- for her focus effort and careful approach in watercolour.
5M – Chima, Douglas & Brian- finding an excellent example of how an author stretches the moment’ to add detail.

What makes a good poem? Create a mind map on paper or on the computer to display what you/ family/ professionals think makes a good poem.
Remember to complete spelling practice words if you haven’t already done so.
Please remind children to bring their book bags to school on their library days so that they are borrowing library books on a weekly basis. Library books should be carried inside a book bag to keep them nice and safe
