Year 5 Update Wk 30

Swimming will be starting in June. All Year 5 children are required to attend the 4 lessons which will be held on Thursday mornings. More specific details to follow in the coming weeks. For now here is the list of what they need to have ready to bring to school on these days.

Swimming caps, flip flops/ crocs or other shoes suitable to wear once in the pool area, towels,Swimming suits or costumes (no bikinis), goggles are optional, a waterproof bag separate from their school backpacks.

This has been an incredibly busy week for Year 5 as well as being the beginning of their final unit ‘Identity.’ First of all, a huge well done to everyone in 5M for their fantastic assembly! It was so nice to be reminded of all of the events throughout Year 5, it is obvious you put a lot of hard and effort into your performance, we loved it!

The year 5 children took part in a wonderful Bassistry Arts workshop on Monday where they learned all about rhythm, beat, song and dance as well as composing their own melody playing various percussion instruments- you were all fantastic, it was a great opportunity to make noise and work together.

Our final unit has begun where we get the chance to get arty over the next six weeks. The children started looking at mark making using only a dot to create different pictures, patterns, colours and drawings- it has been lovely to see all of the individual artistic style around the classroom. We have also introduced the seven elements of art this week where the children have had the opportunity to experiment with each and recreate their own pieces. The children will learn to use this vocabulary when interpreting other artists work.

Year 5 also took part in a fantastic jump jam session on Thursday- it was great to learn new routines to different songs to help us stay fit and active. Well done to everyone who took part in the leadership workshop as well, you all performed the new routine brilliantly!

Central Idea:

Arts are used to express messages and ideas

Lines of Inquiry:

  1. The tools and techniques artists use (form)
  2. How messages are interpreted and conveyed (perspective)
  3. How art influences others (reflection)
Perspective Reflection Form
We will understand that artists draw on different experiences and thoughts when creating their work. We will understand that artists use a range and mix of artistic elements to express their ideas. We will understand that there are different elements of art which work together to create a work of art.

Year 5 will start to inquire into different artistic techniques by focusing on four different art studies. They will get the opportunity to recreate the artist’s work using their own style and similar techniques. Using their knowledge of the 7 elements, the classes will begin to interpret known artists work and describe what they see, key messages and the inspiration behind the artwork.

maths

As we learn new vocabulary to help us interpret artwork, we will be working towards incorporating this language into our own descriptions. We will also focus on enhancing sentence structure to up level our writing.

When reading we will be ensuring that the children are monitoring their comprehension by ensuring they are thinking and reacting to what we read. We will be expanding their thinking by talking with each other about what they read.
