This week started with a fire drill in which the Year 5 children where a true credit to themselves. We were proud of how quickly, sensible and quietly they left the building and assembled quietly at the meeting place.
We also saw the first presentation of the BHS House Cup in Golden Book Assembly on Monday. Everyone waited eagerly and hoped their team had done well. The new house captains were announced and gave their acceptance speeches.
The winning team was:  Duo Yuan
Camp preparations have started with children thinking and choosing friends they would like to share a dorm with. It was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with people they were with last year.
This week we also wish to share some other great new from each class which the class teachers have been particularly pleased with.
5Y Miss Younie was proud to announce that there were no careless mistakes in this week’s spelling tests.
5M Mrs Mckinnon was very impressed at how well her class were able to understand and write their own metaphors.
5P Mrs Pickering was delighted to see how quickly her class switched their focus from all the assembly preparations back to the key ideas of the migration unit.

UOIMigration can have an impact on people and society

Lines of Inquiry:

  1. The reasons why people migrate (causation)
  2. Migration throughout history (causation
  3. The challenges, risks and opportunities of migration (perspective)

All the children will be working hard to complete their various learning tasks in time for the sharing day. Poems are being composed and displayed. Clay is being modelled and finishings applied. Drama frames and lines will be practised and recorded.

Children will be having a busy week pulling together their learning over the past few weeks to produce independent work emphasising their own interest and curiosity about migration.

Home reading should continue as normal.

Children can also access Mathletics and Reading Eggpress.

Children may be assigned additional tasks by their class teachers as they progress through the week and need to finish or further research ideas for their personal inquiries.

Camp booklets are nearly ready to be printed but we need a front cover. Each child is being asked to design a cover and submit it back to class teachers it should include the : Year 5 Camp, 2016 printed on as well as a space for the owners name.

PrintHong Kong Arts in the Park festival will be held next weekend ( November 12th – 13th) at Victoria Park in Causeway Bay. Children from BHS will be performing so pop along and join the fun.
