Preparations for the end of the school year
Please make sure portfolios are returned to school before your child’s last day in preparation for the next school year. The children will be sharing their portfolios with their new classmates at the start of the term before they go home for good.

The children must also bring in a plastic or environmentally-friendly shopping bag large enough to hold their folders and books. They are advised to bring this in as soon as possible and keep it in their cubbies until it is needed.

Swimming!

We have our fingers crossed for good weather this last Wednesday and hope that the children can enjoy their last swimming lesson!

Parenting in the Age of Digital Media

If you have any concerns regarding digital media (apps, online games, movies, websites, etc) your child is accessing, then you may find the common sense media website very useful. It has reviewed many popular online games and given them suggested age ratings in order to help parents make informed choices.

Beacon Hill School Action Day!
This is a call for all parents who work in or have connections to food distributions companies.
Next year, BHS is hoping to support Sunshine Action through organising a food drive to help HK’s poorest, but this can only happen with your support. Please see the poster below for more information.
Fitness Tracking!
4W are excited to finally track their progress with the fitness bands! A kind reminder to return them on Monday.
Learning and teaching a skill through the use of digital media
The children have been develop their self-monitoring and perform progress checks as they move through student-led inquiries into digital media. Some have completed and are reflecting on their ‘learn a skill’ action project whilst others have moved onto using screencastify to record their own tutorials of webtools they know very well.
Information reports on digital media and technology
The children utilised graphic organisers to collect information on digital media and wrote a report explaining the benefits, challenges and responsibilities that come with digital media.

How We Organise Ourselves

Central Idea: The way we communicate information through digital media can bring challenges, benefits and responsibilities

Lines of Inquiry
An inquiry into:

  •  How new digital media is used and organised (function)
  •  Benefits and challenges of new media (reflection)
  •  Our responsibility in virtual environments (responsibility)

Next week the children will be working on consolidating their learning and creating posters to address different aspects of internet safety.

Daily home reading

Please continue with your home reading by using Reading Eggs and Big Universe and recording the titles of the online books you read in your Reading Journals.

Spelling

The children will have 10 new words to learn each week and will be tested on them by a classmate three times per week. The words they have consist of some vocabulary relevant to our current U.O.I., some words relating to the spelling rule that we are currently learning about and some words of their choice.
