How We Organise Ourselves
Central Idea: The way we communicate information through digital media can bring challenges, benefits and responsibilities
Lines of Inquiry
An inquiry into:
- How new digital media is used and organised (function)
- Benefits and challenges of new media (reflection)
- Our responsibility in virtual environments (responsibility)
Next week will compile and collate further information about how Y4 children use digital media. We will also ask them to share their understanding of the central idea and lines of inquiry.
Central Idea – Probability is based on chance and can be expressed in different ways
Lines of Inquiry – An inquiry into:
- Data from probability and how it can be collected, organised, displayed and analysed in different ways.
- Different graph forms that highlight different aspects of probability data more efficiently.
Next week the children will continue to explore the language of probability using terms such as likely’, ‘unlikely’, ‘certain’, ‘impossible’. They will also begin to identify familiar events that are dependent and independent of the occurrence of the other.
.
Comprehension Key: Determining Importance
The children will be differentiating between important and interesting facts in their reading. They will also use graphic organisers to record any questions and responses they have to a text.
Year 4 – UOI Home learning 19.5.17 – DIGITAL MEDIA
Earlier this week you completed the “All about me in 5 tabs” challenge by opening the 5 tabs on an internet browser that best represent you and your use of digital media.
Your homework this week is to ask an adult to complete the same challenge!
You will need to…
- Explain the challenge clearly
- Allow the adult to have 15 minutes thinking and browsing time
- Give them a further 5 minutes to select their final 5 tabs
- Record/screenshot the tabs they have chosen
- Have a discussion about why they have selected each of their 5 websites.
Next Friday (26.5.17), you will need to share your findings with your classmates. You may choose how to share your findings, some suggestions include – Google Slides show, oral presentation, poster, Google doc, etc, but you may be as creative as you wish.
Remember to include…
- A brief description of each of the adult’s 5 chosen websites
- The reason why each one is important to them
Have fun!
Deadline: Friday 26th May
Daily home reading
Please check to make sure your child is taking home home reader books at their level, or reading books on Reading Eggs at their comprehension age level. PLEASE be reminded that the colour sticker on the reading book your child brings home is far less significant than the development of fluency AND comprehension. There is also an expectation that your child will read a book and complete any quizzes on Reading Eggspress twice a week.
Spelling
The children will have 10 new words to learn each week (Friday) and will be tested on them by a classmate three times per week. The words they have consist of some vocabulary relevant to our current U.O.I., some words relating to the spelling rule that we are currently learning about and some words of their choice.
