A Monica Vinader bracelet with an engraved plate was handed in to the Year 3 teachers after the Student Led Conferences. If you believe the bracelet belongs to you, please contact your child’s class teacher.

If your child has Deli Fresh for lunch, please talk to them about their food choices as we have noticed a lot of children are reluctant to finish their lunch.

Please remember that we have a no nut policy at BHS due to some children having severe allergies. This includes peanut butter sandwiches and nuts in cookies or cakes.

Thank you to all the parents that helped support their child in creating their costumes for the book character / maths parade. There were so many fantastic and creative ideas.
To end a wonderful 7 days of ABC’s and 123’s the Year 3’s and 4’s had a visit from the author David Schwartz. He explained to the children how his love of numbers allowed him to become an author. He showed the children some of his books and had them estimating and counting lots of different numbers. Ask your child what the best part of the author visit was.

Homes have been influenced by a variety of factors over time

Lines of Inquiry

1. What is a home? (Form)

2. How and why homes in (the local environment) Hong Kong have changed over time. (Change)

3. The influence of social factors in the development of homes (Causation)

This week the children have been inquiring into different types of homes in Hong Kong. They have watched some videos and had class discussions about some of the homes found in Hong Kong. They have thought about the positives and minuses of what it would be like to live in some of these homes. There has been some fantastic thinking and questions being asked by all the children. Perhaps you could discuss with your child what your home was like when you were growing up.

Our next unit in Maths we will be looking at time. We will be looking at reading and writing the  time to the quarter hour and 5 minute intervals (past, to). We will also look at estimating and comparing lengths of time: second, minute, hour, day, week, months and years.

This week the children did their pre-assessment for time. They were asked to draw a clock and next week they will begin to make their own clocks.

The children have continued their learning on speech marks and some of them have used them in their narrative writing summative assessment. Next week the children will begin to look at the features of an information report. This will be our new text type for the coming unit.

Don’t forget to ask your child about the features of a narrative and watch these speech marks videos with your child.
