Thank you to all those parents who came to the ‘Meet The Teacher’ evening on Tuesday. It was lovely to meet you all. The PowerPoint will be available for you to look at on the school website.

Please send back your reply slips about our trip to Penfold Park. As part of this trip involves the children making a healthy lunch, please ensure that your child’s information regarding any food allergies is updated on the Gateway.

If you signed up to be a PMP volunteer, please check your child’s diary for important information regarding next week and the activity you will lead.

The children had a wonderful time at the LEAP Centre learning all about healthy eating choices and how it affects their bodies.

Many children have also had the chance to try out cosmic yoga or Zen Doodles which helps them to stay relaxed.

This week classes have been continuing to look at healthy eating; what is nutritious and good for them. This might be a good time to discuss healthy snack and lunch ideas together.

We have connected to other curricular areas by thinking of procedures that keep us healthy, and practising some ways that art can help us relax. Teachers have shared some items that represent the different ways they make healthy life-style choices for rest and relaxation, nutrition and exercise, celebrating, friendships, safety, fresh air and connecting to nature. Students can start bringing in healthy lifestyle items that they would like to share too!

Recognise, model, read, write and order three digit numbers

In Maths students have been recognising and modelling numbers in a variety of ways. Most students have a growing knowledge of double digit numbers leading to 100, and will start to focus on numbers beyond 100. To prepare, students have been skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s and 100s.

Your child has a Mathletics password in their diary. Have a look together and complete some activities based on place value.

Writing– The structure of a procedural text

Handwriting– Upper and lower case letters

Phonics– Year 1 review and ‘ee’ sound

The children have continued to identify the components of a procedural text and write instructions for a variety of healthy activities.

Your child has a login name and password for Reading Eggs inside their diary. Please allow your child some time during the week to show you what activities they are doing.

Spelling

Studying spelling words is new for Year 2 students, and is completed on a weekly basis. Please take a look at the folder with your child and remember to do two of the activities. Please sign the spelling sheet when the activities have been completed.

Your child had their first spelling test today. They now need to learn the words from the second column.

Reading

Please read with your child daily, preferably to mum or dad, then the child should retell the story including the main events and details without looking at the book. It is also good to ask your child a few questions about why they think certain things happened to build inference skills. Your comment and signature confirms that your child has read with an adult.

Please remember to keep all your information up to date on the Gateway. This also includes any medical information or dietary requirements about your child.
