Cooler Weather has arrived! With the cooler weather you are naturally wanting your child to wear more layers of clothing to school. Please note that the correct school uniform must be worn, in particular school jumpers and P.E. jackets instead of non uniform long-sleeve tops underneath P.E. and school shirts.
We have clear expectations regarding our school uniform. Sometimes students may need to wear something different for a short period of time if they have outgrown a pair of shoes for example, but we encourage everyone to adhere to the uniform at all times. We appreciate your support in helping to ensure we maintain our strong identity and that all the children feel a sense of pride in wearing the BHS colours.
Thank you to all the parents and relatives that were able to make it to Sharing Day today. The children were very excited to perform their dances and dramas for you, as well as show you some instrument work for celebrations. Thank you to all the adults who helped in school as well. Ms Cassie from Twigga Pottery helped the children create wonderful celebration candle holders, and Mr Lowe helped the children use Canva to make a poster advertising a party. Ms. Kannis helped the children make a related stop-motion movie, Mr Gibson has practised songs and instruments with the classes, and Mr Thompson worked with classes for their freeze-frame drama scene.
We also had an emergency lock-down drill on Thursday, and the classes behaved very responsibly.
We are starting a new unit next week! The unit is under How The World Works, and it is strongly science based. Here are the details:
central idea: People use and change materials to suit their needs
lines of inquiry:
- The properties of materials and how they are used
- How materials can change
- The manipulation of materials for new purposes
You can help your child at home by having a discussion about different types of materials, or what things are made of. Look around your home and find as many different materials as you can. How does the material of each object suit the job it does? For example, why are tea kettles metal? How would another material perform?
Next week classes will be doing some experiments and investigations with different materials and how some materials change when we use them for food.
Here are the outcomes that we are inquiring into in Maths.
Model multiplication and division using groups and/or arrays
- Groups and shares collections of objects equally, recording the grouping and sharing informally
- Models the relationship between multiplication and division using arrays
Recognise and represent division as grouping into equal sets and solve simple problems using these representations
Use estimation to check reasonableness of answers to calculations
Skip count by twos, fives and tens starting from zero
- Skip count by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s making connections to multiplication tables
