Year 2 Update Wk 17

Tuesday 10th January – Year 5 Bake sale (bring some money)

Friday 13th January – Deadline for Scholastic book orders.

Friday, 20th January – Year 2 Sharing Day – 9:00 AM

Monday 23rd January – Year 2 CNY trip

The Year 2 Sharing Morning is on Friday 20th January. Your child will need a parent or family member to come to school between 8:45 and 11am to share their learning journey.

Your child should come to school dressed in their own clothes on this day.

The children have continued to work on their clay candle holders with Ms Cassie. They have used their designs and added a coloured glaze.

In groups, the children will be inquiring into a specific celebration. The will be finding out about the following things”- What happens? Why? Are there special foods and clothing? Who celebrates this holiday? They are using MISO (M-media, I-interviews, S-surveys, O-observation) to aid their inquiry into these celebrations.

The children are all working to learn and remember steps to class dances about friendship, as well as learning about many different kinds of songs and music linked to different celebrations and festivals.

The children are consolidating and extending their knowledge and understanding of place value.

Count by naming numbers in sequences, to and back from 999, moving from any starting point
Recognise, model, read, write and order three digit numbers
Apply place value to partition and rename, numbers to three digit numbers

The children are using inference to deduce meaning from poetry – What is the poem about? How do you know this?

They are also looking at the descriptive language used.

The children will then compose their own poems about the celebration that they are inquiring into.

The children are also continuing to write letters to a pen pal.

Well done to Sin Lam Yeung (2G) and Ayden Hong (2K) who won the mascot drawing competition for their house teams! Sin Lam drew some lovely dolphins for the Inclusivity House and Ayden created a fire breathing dragon for Confidence House.
