Celebrations and traditions can be expressions of shared beliefs and values
Lines of Inquiry
- Features of traditions and celebrations (form)
- Shared beliefs across celebrations (form, connection)
- Why people celebrate (causation)
The children have discussed different types of celebrations they know and they have used a Lotus diagram (graphic organiser) to show their thinking. We have discussed the features and traditions of different celebrations and we are beginning to identify similarities across these. As it’s almost Christmas, we have begun to learn how people celebrate this special time of year around the world. We were very surprised when we learnt that not everyone celebrates Christmas on December 25th. The children have been sharing their learning in different ways e.g. 2M are creating a Lap-book to show their knowledge of Christmas.
Mr Thompson took each class for drama and he has helped us to freeze frame different celebrations from around the world.
In Music we have begun to listen to different types of celebration music from around the world and Mr Gibson has helped us to begin creating our own music compositions using a variety of instruments.

- Use a time line to order daily events.
- Beginning to match the time between analogue and digital clocks.
This week in maths we have been learning how to read analogue clocks to the hour and half hour. We have been learning to record the time using both digital and analogue clocks.
Next week we shall be re-visiting fractions and place value to ensure that we are able to use these in real life contexts. We will also be doing some Christmas maths problem solving. 2K will be measuring with Miss Chung whilst learning how to bake.
