Year 2 Update Wk 11
This week in Year 2 we have started our weekly visits to the Pitch. We carried out a variety of different activities including football, javelin, races and cricket. Each week we shall take turns at trying out a different activity. We thoroughly enjoyed this and the sun was shining for our outing.
We looked at our science experiments and listed any changes in their appearance.
Children have begun their personal inquiry into different types of pollution.
We have been learning about pollution in Hong Kong and creating some fabulous drawings using a variety of media.
Our personal choices can impact the environment
Lines of Inquiry
- Decomposing (function)
- How our actions affect the environment (causation)
- Personal choices that can help sustain the environment (reflection)
We have analysed our science experiments and listed the physical changes in our groups. We identified what we saw, smelled and felt. The children will be creating a Green Pledge; an action they can take to help the environment. We shall be looking at the causes, effects and resolutions of 3 different types of pollution; air, land and water. We shall be using different media to research these three key areas and reporting our findings in a variety of ways, such as creating informative posters.
We shall be recording our findings in a variety of ways and sharing them with our peers. We will be working in groups and individually and practising our speaking and listening skills
.
Find equal parts of shapes and collections
- Equally share a collection of objects into 2 or more equal groups for example by sharing 12 balls between 3 bags by using number facts 4+4+4=12.
- Discuss possible strategies if the whole parts cannot be shared equally e.g.: 3 people, 5 cakes – how much cake each?
- Find equal parts of shapes for example folding paper squares – how many ways can you divide it equally?
Addition and subtraction
We have been learning how to use different strategies to solve subtraction problems. 2M have been trying to solve different word problems and showing their thinking in a variety of ways.
Fractions
We shall begin to look at fractions of shapes and whole numbers. The children shall begin by recapping any previous knowledge they have of fractions e.g. what is a fraction and what isn’t?
