We have been working with lots of adults in the school to ensure that our Sharing Day is a huge success.
We have finished off our Christmas Lapbooks and we have begun using our inquiry skills to research our chosen celebrations.
In PMP we have had lots of fun trying new activities.
Celebrations and traditions can be expressions of shared beliefs and values
Lines of Inquiry
- Features of traditions and celebrations (form)
- Shared beliefs across celebrations (form, connection)
- Why people celebrate (causation)
This week we have begun our personal inquiries into our chosen celebrations. Some examples of these are Valentine’s Day, Day of the Dead and Hanukkah. We have used different media to carry out our research; books, computers, information sheets and also by asking adults questions.
We have been working very hard to ensure that we are ready to share our learning with the parents on Friday.
Mr Gibson has been teaching us how to play different songs using different musical instruments; keyboards, the xylophone and the glockenspiel. We have been learning to read some simple tunes and play these with a partner.
Each class has been learning some new dances from around the world to share with their parents and Mr Thompson has been helping us to practise our drama skills.
We have been working in small groups with Miss Kannis to create a stop motion animation about our chosen celebration and to share some of the traditions and customs associated with these.
The children are consolidating and extending their knowledge and understanding of place value.
- Count by naming numbers in sequences, to and back from 999, moving from any starting point
- Recognise, model, read, write and order three digit numbers
- Apply place value to partition and rename, numbers to three digit numbers
We have been recapping our previous learning by looking at place value. We really challenged ourselves this week by ordering 2, 3 and even 4 digit numbers. Across the Year, we have been using 100 squares to find possible solutions to number problems. We have been in our ‘stretch zones’ all week and lots of learning has taken place.
Next week we shall begin to look at multiplication and division. We shall start by looking at different arrays and practising our 2,3 and 5 times tables.
