Year 1 Update – Wk 34
Today has been a very special day in Year 1 with our Sharing Day for parents. We are all so proud of all the children for all their hard work over the past few weeks and for the way in which they shared their learning with you today. The children have all come so far this year in terms of their confidence and independence and that was clear for everybody to see today. We hope that you enjoyed talking to your child about what they have learnt and enjoyed the many ways in which they have learnt to tell stories. Thank you for your participation in all of the rotations. We know that the children very much enjoyed having you in school and spending time sharing their learning with you.
Central Idea: The Earth’s changes affect the activity of living things.
Next week we will begin our new unit by tuning the children into thinking about ways in which the Earth changes. The children will be looking at images and videos of the Earth and thinking of questions that they have related to change that happen to the Earth. We will be introducing them to a thinking strategy called “I see, I think, I wonder” where the children are encouraged to look at images of the world around them and comment on what they see, what they think is happening and what they wonder.
Central Idea: Patterns can be represented using numbers and other symbols.
This week we will be finishing off our work on fractions by looking at fractions of groups of objects and halves of numbers. We will also be beginning our new unit based on pattern. The children will start the unit by using everyday items to make simple patterns, such as different coloured bears, coins, play people and coloured cars. The children will also be looking for patterns around us in our school environment.
Phonics
We will continue with our Unit 6 phonemes. Please help us at home by playing the games on the Unit 6 Phonic Bookmark.
