Year 1 Update – Wk 29
Year 1 Sharing
This week has been a very busy week in the lead up to today’s Year 1 Sharing. Over the past 7 weeks all of the children have worked incredibly hard and have thoroughly enjoyed sharing all of their learning with you today. We have all been very proud of their efforts throughout the unit and in particular the way in which they have been able to talk about their learning today. We hope that you all enjoyed this morning and that the children have taught you something about the connections between living things. We will include photographs from today’s sharing on next weeks weekly update.
If you would like to see the Stop Motion animation videos the link will be on this week’s BHS Newsletter.
Year 6 Action
The students in Year 6 have also been very busy this week sharing their Year 6 Exhibition action with the rest of the school. The Year 1 children have been part of this by attending information lessons about how we can protect the plight of endangered sharks, gaining house points for having healthy lunches and bringing fruit to school for snack time. They have also enjoyed the baked goods that have been sold at the various different bake sales that have taken place this week. The money raised from these bake sales will be donated to to different charities, including, Saikung Stray Friends and The Pink Dolphin Conservation Society. Thank you for your support!
Next week we will be wrapping up our How the World Works year long unit. The children will be revisiting the concept of change in relation to the Earth. They will be inquiring into different Earth changes such as, day and night, the seasons, weather and volcanoes by exploring books and simple videos.
Cooking at Home
We are so pleased that the Year 1 children are continuing to enjoy baking and preparing their meals at home. This week 1W have been very busy! Anaya made yummy iced coffee, Irina helped to prepare her pasta dinner and Amira baked cookies. Ethan from 1L has also been helpful at home by making potato salad with his brother. Well done everyone!
Numbers can be added and subtracted
Next week in Maths we will be finishing our unit based on addition and subtraction. The children will be continuing to explore the relationship between addition and subtraction and they will be reflecting on the different types of strategies that they can use to solve maths problems. Over the past few weeks the children have explored different strategies for calculating such as, counting on and counting back, using a number line, using number facts and bridging across 10. It is important that the children learn a variety of mental and written strategies that they can apply to mathematical real life problems.
Next week we will be introducing Unit 6 phonemes and camera words. The phonic bookmark will be sent home early next week. Please support your child at home by playing the suggested games and activities on the phonics bookmark.
Phonemes: qu, ng, x, ck
Camera Words: away, see, look, very, once, we
Congratulations to this week’s Golden Book recipients.
