Year 1 Update – Wk 2
This week the Year 1 students have continued to make a great start to their school life at BHS. On Thursday they stayed for lunch for the first time and we are pleased with the way in which they settled to this new routine. It is a good idea to chat with your child about what will be in their lunch box each day so that they know what they have to eat and do not get upset if it is a food that they do not like. Please continue to send a snack each day too as it is very long time for the children from the beginning of school until lunchtime.
This week each class has started to discuss their class Essential Agreements and have agreed together the ways in which we can all work together to make our classes and school a happy place to learn.
Home-School Diary – It is really important that you check your child’s diary each day. Often there will be letters with information about school and class events as well as occasional messages from class teachers.
Library Books – The children have all now borrowed a picture book that they can share and read with you at home. Please remember that this is a book for you to enjoy together and not a book that we are expecting the children to be able to read themselves. The children only need to bring this bag to school on their class Learning Centre day.
School Shoes – The children all look so smart in their BHS school uniforms. Please make sure that they have the correct black school shoes and white trainers for PE and PMP lessons.
PMP and PE – This week you should have received your child’s class timetable and know when they have PMP and PE. From next Monday please send your child to school in PE kit on their PE and PMP days. Although PMP will not start until 5th September, we would like to get the children used to this routine.
1L – Monday, Tuesday, Friday
1F – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

Central Idea: People have abilities and interests who form who they are.
This week the children have been excited to share their “All About Me” posters with their classmates. We have been really pleased with the way in which the children have been able to talk about their families, likes, dislikes and hobbies.
Next week, the Year 1 students will be learning about similarities and differences between themselves and others. We will hopefully be meeting with our Year 5 buddies and thinking about what makes a good listener and a good speaker.
