Parent Teacher Consultations
Our first Parent Teacher Consultations this year will be on Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th October. This is a valuable opportunity for you to find out more about your child’s learning in Inquiry, English and Mathematics through conversation with their class teacher. Bookings for appointments are made through the Gateway and this is available for families with more than one child at school from 3pm Monday 17th September and for all our families from 3pm Friday 21st September. This means that families with more than one child in school can get appointments on the same day.
Transdisciplinary Theme: Sharing the Planet
Central Idea- Reaching a resolution during periods of conflict is influenced by the actions and reactions of all involved.
Lines of Inquiry – We will inquire into…
- Causes of conflict (causation, perspective)
- Conflict resolution and management (responsibility)
- Our responsibility as a member of a community. (Responsibility)
The children will be thinking about different types of conflict which they may have encountered or read about. In class, we will be working together to identify different strategies to help resolve different conflict whether it is at home, in school or thinking about the wider world on a global scale.
Number Maths – Operations
Central Idea –We use the same rules for the computation of decimal fractions as for whole numbers
How are the four rules related to each other?
In what ways can we record the rules for a pattern in addition and subtraction?
Central Idea – Conversion of units and measurements allows us to make sense of the world we live in.
In strand math, we will explore area and perimeter of a triangle and identify the properties which will help us to calculate the measurements.
We will continue to draw inferences when we read by looking at a variety of passages from texts. Year 6 will be focusing on the story ‘Half A Man’ by Michael Morpurgo using the illustrations and descriptions to apply their learning of inference.
