Parent Teacher Consultations
Our first Parent Teacher Consultations this year will be on Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th October. This is a valuable opportunity for you to find out more about your child’s learning in Inquiry, English and Mathematics through conversation with their class teacher. Bookings for appointments are made through the Gateway and this is available for families with more than one child at school from 3pm Monday 17th September and for all our families from 3pm Friday 21st September. This means that families with more than one child in school can get appointments on the same day. E C O S Q U A D
The children are working hard to upcycle and rescue items that would usually be thrown away. We will then give the finished product to people at school to improve their well being.
Camp Information Meeting
It is great to see you all back to school safe and well after the typhoon and we do hope that your families, homes and surrounding areas are ok too.
Year 6 enjoyed an inspirational and educational presentation from the author David Greenberg whose father represented Martin Luther King. It was incredible to hear his stories as well as extracts from his own novel ‘A Tugging String.’
Everyone managed to apply their focus back to the inquiry cycle as we continued with the create project as part of our leadership questions. We look forward to seeing all of your ideas and sharing feedback with you next week.
6H wrote some descriptive poems based on typhoon Mangkhut, using the senses, images and surroundings to draw on their experiences and the damage caused around Hong Kong.
Year 6 also enjoyed the opportunity to visit the Mid Autumn Festival Market on Thursday where they tried different flavoured moon cakes, bought lanterns and other gifts for their family and friends.
Transdisciplinary Theme: Sharing the Planet
Central Idea- Reaching a resolution during periods of conflict is influenced by the actions and reactions of all involved.
Lines of Inquiry – We will inquire into…
- Causes of conflict (causation, perspective)
- Conflict resolution and management (responsibility)
- Our responsibility as a member of a community. (Responsibility)
The children will be thinking about different types of conflict which they may have encountered or read about. In class, we will be working together to identify different strategies to help resolve different conflict whether it is at home, in school or thinking about the wider world on a global scale.
Number Maths – Operations
Central Idea – The base 10 place value system extends infinitely in two directions.
We continue to focus on place value within two of the four operations, looking at addition and subtraction of decimal numbers. We will explore effective strategies for mental and written problems.
Central Idea – Conversion of units and measurements allows us to make sense of the world we live in.
In strand math, we will explore area and perimeter of a triangle and identify the properties which will help us to calculate the measurements.
Throughout our inquiry we are continuing to synthesise our learning as well as identifying important information will will help to answer our personalised questions based on our chosen leaders.
