Swimming- Remember to bring: swimmers, change of underwear, $5 coin, swimming cap, goggles and a towel.
Equipment and stationery – most children have made a great start to the year and have brought the correct equipment. However, some students have not and it is essential that they bring all of the items listed on the letter that they received at the end of Year 5.
If your child has lost the letter, they need to ask their class teacher for another copy.
If you have not already done so, please purchase a cheap pair of in-ear earphones for your children to keep in school at all times. We use the Chromebooks to enhance many areas of the curriculum, in order to get the most out of the programs we use, earphones as a must. They are available from Japanese Home Centre (JHC) for 50HKD.
First of all a huge well done to all of our Year 6 students for presenting such fantastic house captain, student council and or eco squad speeches. The amount of effort, focus, hard work and commitment you dedicated to these in a short space of time was very impressive. It was great to hear all about your individual strengths and characteristics as well as the ideas you would hope to bring to the BHS community if you were elected. Many of you were courageous this week as you stepped out of your comfort zone and challenged yourself by presenting independently in front of your class, well done!
Year 6 have also been busy unscrambling the central idea for our first unit, identifying the key vocabulary and making connections to our lines of inquiry and concepts. Your student lead questions will help guide your inquiry cycle and we look forward to exploring these further next week.
Number Math groups began this week and the children have been identifying areas of development within place value, number crunching and exploring decimal fractions.
6Y have enjoyed circle time with Ms. Mak where we are learning to communicate with one another using makaton sign language. We thoroughly enjoyed creating interesting creatures and sharing them with one another too!
Thank you to Mr Melsom who came and spoke with us today- identifying different ways to reduce food waste in Hong Kong. Year 6 enjoyed the chance to work with him in the garden, well done for doing your bit to help the environment- let’s keep it up!

We will become more familiar and confident with the inquiry cycle next week as we investigate through research, discussion and sharing. We will identify and share our new thinking and ideas throughout the week to build on our existing knowledge.
Number Maths – Place Value
Central Idea – The base 10 place value system extends infinitely in two directions.
Year 6 will continue to investigate decimal fractions through place value and money next week. In strand math we will explore conversions of units of measure by looking at and estimating distance as well as body measurements.
Central Idea – Conversion of units and measurements allows us to make sense of the world we live in.
We are learning to become more aware of the new ideas and thoughts we develop through reading, watching and listening. This week we will read and listen to a selection of powerful speeches to not only think about the purpose but also the influence these speeches had on society. We will share our understanding and new ideas using graphic organisers and think alouds.
