Exhibition Preparation
The exhibition unit is almost upon us. Please discuss the following with your children. By Monday 12th March, the children need to have decided on the area they wish to focus on.
Below is the link to the PowerPoint from the coffee morning.
Communication/Presentations/Year 6 Exhibition information for parents
Year 6 have chosen their Exhibition focus areas, and it is great to have such a variation of interests across the year group. Thank you to parents for having discussions at home and for supporting their choices. This is an important decision for Year 6 to fulfil their enjoyable and busy exhibition experience. The children proved themselves by giving a one minute speech to the class based on their chosen interest. They had little preparation time, applied their experience from house captain speeches and impressed one another with their background knowledge and personal experiences so far.
As we come to the end of unit 4, we have completed a variety of scientific investigations and reflected on our learning engagements. It has been great to hear the children’s new knowledge and understanding around the unit and how these investigations have furthered their understanding of the world around us.
We thoroughly enjoyed supporting Year 5’s Big Business Market Day by buying many of their hand made products, well done to you all!
Our house captains were a great help at Year 1 and 2’s Sports Day and got a special mention from Mr Teahan for all their hard work and efforts to organise and support the day.
Well done to our winners in 6Y of the Trashion Fashion show! Your team put together a fabulous outfit made from recycled materials.
Some Year 6 children enjoyed the opportunity to visit an Art exhibition at Island school. Hopefully this inspired some of you in preparation for creative ideas for Exhibition or broadened your knowledge of the elements or art.
Transdisciplinary theme:

Next week will be our first week of Year 6 Exhibition! Children will get the chance to discuss ideas in their groups, identify common interests and share suggestions. We will unscramble the central idea and become familiar with how our interests benefit ourselves as well as people around us.
We are looking forward to China Cultural Day on Monday where the children come to school in traditional dress and will get to take part in a variety of activities linked to the new year of the dog. Year 6 also have sports day coming up on Thursday so don’t forget to wear PE kit to school.

In Number Math we will continue to work out percentages of amounts and share different strategies we are confident with to solve different problems. Children can continue to take part in the 50th fortnight activities around school linked to Maths, the number 50 and other mathematical clues and problem solving.
Year 6 will be carrying out plenty of research and gathering new information based on their chosen interest from a variety of sources. It is important they use their note taking skills to identify the important and relevant information by paraphrasing as well as transferring information into their own words and language they understand. We will continue to apply our knowledge of the comprehension strategy determining importance using both fiction and nonfiction books.
Don’t forget to continue with the Reading Challenge between now and 18th June as well as completing the 50:50 Book Challenge in the library! Pupils have been highly engaged in the challenge so far so keep it up and complete the challenge!
Think about contact you can make with businesses, charities, organisations or individual people linked to your interest. Can you organise a visit, interview, conversation, email etc to gain more knowledge and information from another source?
Spelling : The children should be tested on their words at home 3 times per week ready for our buddy test on Friday. Any words that the children spell incorrectly during the buddy test on Friday will get carried over to next week’s ‘Words I need to learn…’ All children need to remember to bring in their Spelling Journals each day.
Reading : Each child should be reading throughout the week. Don’t forget to think about your weekly reflection for your Reading Journals!
