Year 6 Christmas Party
Year 6 Christmas parties are on Wednesday 13th December. Please remember that children will need to bring in some food to share and that they can wear party clothes. Secret Santa presents will need to be in prior to the party.
Action Day 2017In September 2015, 193 world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. If these Goals are completed, it would mean an end to extreme poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030.
Year 6 played a major role in the BHS food drive today. We successfully put together around 1600 food bags in order to help those less fortunate than ourselves.
Westlandia Art
When Wesley, a somewhat eccentric boy with no friends, discovers a mysterious plant magically growing in his parents’ backyard, he cultivates the plant over his summer vacation. The plant, which he names “swist“, provides him with a food source, and allows him to build shelter, tools, and even create his own entertainment and inspires Wesley to create his own writing system. Wesley’s resourcefulness and meticulous research eventually allow to him the basis of his own civilization which he names “Weslandia.”
Historical Fiction Books
Each year 6 class has a selection of books for the students to read.
Please find some time to talk about the book they have chosen.

Museum Visit
Last Friday the Year 6 students visited the Science and History Museum. The purpose of this trip was to learn how museums educate their visitors. We looked at the type of displays they use, their use of colour and lighting, the position of artifacts, the use of technology, interactive exhibits and how they use language and pictures to tell us about the past.
The children will continue to explore a variety of reference books, internet search engines and video clips to research their chosen civilsaition. We will explore areas such as education, language, fashion, sports, defence and government to ensure that we gain a broad understanding. We will continue to apply our skill of note taking using shorthand to help us with paraphrasing as well as being aware of our sources when identifying important information.
Central Idea
We use the same rules for the computation of decimal fractions as for whole numbers
Number Maths – Classes will focus on consolidating their knowledge of adding and subtracting fractions. Securing our knowledge of simplifying and equivalence will support our learning and help us to become confident when sharing strategies to solve problems.
We have been focusing on descriptive language using nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. We have been looking at short clips from movies and books as well as still images to stretch out the moment when describing a scene or character or the atmosphere.
Spelling : The children should be tested on their words at home 3 times per week ready for our buddy test on Friday. Any words that the children spell incorrectly during the buddy test on Friday will get carried over to next week’s ‘Words I need to learn…’ All children need to remember to bring in their Spelling Journals each day.
Reading : Each child should be reading throughout the week. Don’t forget to think about your weekly reflection for your Reading Journals!

We would like them to start looking for pictures, words, articles, info. graphics, questions about themes, topics or areas that inspire them.
