Healthy Living at BHS
We promote healthy living at BHS and therefore children should only bring water to school. Please do not send milk drinks, sugary drinks or any other kind of drink. We have water fountains and taps where students can refill their (BHS) water bottles throughout the day.

Action Day

This week…Year 6 have made a great start to their new unit.  We are excited to explore different ancient civilisations through a variety of sources. Each class read the story of ‘Weslandia’ which was a wonderful provocation for ideas and discussion. Together we defined the word ‘civilisation’, came up with key language and shared what we thought made a successful civilisation. Wesley’s civilisation spurred us to explore many past civilsations which have contributed to society today. The children have enjoyed the opportunity to use Brain Pop, National Geographic, Horrible Histories, BBC and many more to investigate further. Ms. Jeves has been working with us to improve our note taking skills as well as identifying reliable sources.

Year 6 Action
Board – Global Goals

In September 2015, 193 world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. If these Goals are completed, it would mean an end to extreme poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030.

Our governments have a plan to save our planet…it’s our job to make sure they stick to it.

The Global Goals are only going to work if we fight for them and you can’t fight for your rights if you don’t know what they are. We believe the Goals are only going to be completed if we can make them famous.

In Year 6 we are keeping track of all the amazing Action happening at school and at home.

Museum Visit

The children will continue to explore a variety of reference books, internet search engines and video clips to research their chosen civilsaition. We will explore areas such as education, language, fashion, sports, defence and government to ensure that we gain a broad understanding. We will continue to apply our skill of note taking using shorthand to help us with paraphrasing as well as being aware of our sources when identifying important information.

Central Idea

We use the same rules for the computation of decimal fractions as for whole numbers

Number Maths – Classes will focus on consolidating their knowledge of adding and subtracting fractions. Securing our knowledge of simplifying and equivalence will support our learning and help us to become confident when sharing strategies to solve problems.

This week we will focus on descriptive language using nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. We will look at short clips from movies and books as well as still images to stretch out the moment when describing a scene or character or the atmosphere.

Spelling : The children should be tested on their words at home 3 times per week ready for our buddy test on Friday.  Any words that the children spell incorrectly during the buddy test on Friday will get carried over to next week’s ‘Words I need to learn…’  All children need to remember to bring in their Spelling Journals each day.

Reading : Each child should be reading throughout the week. Don’t forget to think about your weekly reflection for your Reading Journals!
