BHS Dance Off
Our BHS Dance Off has been postponed until after Easter.  Our student council will be sharing more information next week.  Important things to remember for the Dance off are:
  • To have fun
  • You perform in groups or solo
  • Your dance should be around 1 minute
  • heats for the competition will take place at various lunchtimes after Easter
  • there will be a lower school and upper competition

You can support your child by helping them create and rehearse their dance.

Monday this week was our postponed China Day! The children we’re joined into groups of 24 with 4 children from each year group. They then did a carousel of activities including scratch painting, brush writing, drinking tea and much more. They also went out into the playground and played a variety of outdoor games. It was lots of fun and the children looked fantastic in their traditional Chinese attire.

It was also the 3-6 sports day this week at Kings Park. The children had a great time and there was some great sportsmanship on show. The points from the day will be added to the house points and the winning team announced on Monday.

The robotics club have been building remote control robots! This one came to spy on Mr. Douglas when he was working after school!

Central Idea : Energy can be converted and transformed to support every day life.

An inquiry into…

  • Transformation of energy  (function)
  • Renewable and non-renewable energy (connection)
  • Sustainable energy use in everyday life (causation)
Concepts : function, causation, connection
Related Concepts :forms of energy (electricity, kinetic, potential), sustainability, transformation of energy.
Learner Profile : knowledgable, thinker
Attitudes : curiosity, independence
Our new topic this week saw us introduce the central idea and start to try to answer the question ‘What is Energy?’
To help us see energy being transformed, we worked with Mr. Lowe to use the Makey Makey equipment to complete some circuit challenges. Here’s what 5F got up to.

Number Maths– We got started on our pattern and function work this week, trying to fit everything in around China Day and Sports Day. We looked at identifying rules for predicting future terms. For example, if a pattern goes
                                                             2,8,14,20,?
The rule is +6 and the next term is 20.
Here are 5F investigating some patterns.
Strand Maths – We also begin our new Strand Maths lessons on Angles.  Can all children please make sure they have a protractor at school for the next couple of weeks? Parents, could you please check in with them about this, this weekend.
We introduced our new writing focus this week: Non – Chronological reports.
The children were reminded of some of the key features of this sort of report before they had a go at writing their own based on the businesses they have been working on for the last 7 weeks. We also looked at some excellent examples to help us see what we needed to learn about.
We also began our new reading comprehension focus: determining importance. Whilst we know that we use all our reading strategies when we are reading, this unit we are zooming in on this skill. First we started to learn how to tell if information was important or just interesting.

There was no Golden Book this week due to China Day 🙂

homelearning

  • Read the Weekly Update
  • Mathletics – continue with the set tasks
  • Reading – keep up with their reading every night.  Don’t forget to get Reading Journals signed every night and children should be reading every night.
  • Spelling – each Monday the children are sent home their 10 personal words that they need to learn for the week.  Please, can a parent (or responsible adult) support the children by...testing them (written or oral), getting them to put their words into interesting sentences (written or oral), discussing the meanings of the words, thinking about synonyms and antonyms of that word, discussing words with a similar meaning etc.
  • UOI – rest, relax and enjoy the weekend!
  • Mandarin Home Learning (All children are encouraged to take a reading book home on the days when they have Mandarin lessons.)
  • Ms Lynn – Please check your google classroom for details.
