Big Business
All children now have the $200 dollars in for Big Business so thank you for that. We are encouraging children to take control of sourcing and buying the products they need throughout this unit. We would appreciate any support you can offer to the children with this, but we would like to ask that if you do buy things that you keep the receipts to allow the children to reimburse you from the budget they are working from. This will help them to gain a good understanding about managing a budget, costings and profit. If children are making food items it may be helpful to freeze some part made items in advance.
Winter Clothing
We are struggling here at school with the children wearing too many layers to school. Layering your child with too many clothing layers can actually make them colder. That’s because excess layers can cause your child to sweat, which makes their clothes wet, which allows the cold and wind to bring their temperature down. A lot of children spend the first 20 minutes of each day de-layering all the clothing that you are sending them to school in. It has been a little chilly of late but please, Hong Kong winters are not really too bad but some of the children are coming in dressed for the artic. Would you mind please passing this message on to your helpers as well so they can help the children dress appropriately for the weather?

Book Drive
Hi, my name is Muchan, a Student Councillor for 5C. I am organising a Book Drive to help spread my love of reading. The Sony Corporation will collect books to create mobile libraries in South Africa for schools that do not have enough books. If you have books that are:
- Written in English
- Suitable for 6-12 year olds
- Have no yellow or brown pages (due to aging)
- Have no missing pages
- Have no scribbles inside
- Not Textbooks
- Not magazines
- Not encyclopedias
Please send them to school. There will be a collection box in the school foyer. Any books you can donate will be spread our love of reading.
Student Council Fruity Friday
We’ve been as busy as ever steamrolling ahead with our BB unit.
Ms. Heather came in again this week to do some more drama skills and to help us our with our storyboards for the adverts we will be creating. Mr. Gibson took us for some more sessions to help us with our jingle.
We’ve been busy starting to make some or of our handicrafts that we will sell.
We’ve made a start on our Business Plan and had all of us working on different parts of it.
Well done to Sophie Huang in 5F for her excellent efforts in this recent piano competition…

- Spelling – each Monday the children are sent home their 10 personal words that they need to learn for the week. Please, can a parent (or responsible adult) support the children by...testing them (written or oral), getting them to put their words into interesting sentences (written or oral), discussing the meanings of the words, thinking about synonyms and antonyms of that word, discussing words with a similar meaning etc. NO SPELLING NEXT WEEK
- UOI – this week the children need to try and complete tasks started at school for their home learning. Each group gets together daily and has many tasks that need to be completed within deadlines set by the class teachers. They need to try a and make a concerted effort to find out from their team what needs doing and get on and try and do it! These could be a vast array of jobs, for example…..finishing logos, finishing designs, making prototypes, completing storyboards or scripts, shopping for materials (pls keep the receipt) and/or finishing parts of their Business Plan.
- UOI – please check out the website of the school in Sudan that we are raising money for and discuss your parents the needs of the school that we learned about when Mrs. Quinn came to visit. The website address is..www.immanuelkindergarten.org
