U.O.I.
This week, the children evaluated the research they had done so far and started thinking about how they can make improvements when they begin to research their chosen animal. They started investigating how animals can be classified and what features living things have in common.
Maths
The children continued to inquire into patterns by thinking about visual patterns, patterns found in a hundred square when adding consecutive numbers and they began to predict future terms based on their findings. They also looked at adjacent numbers that formed a square on the number chart. They investigated what would happen if you added the two diagonal numbers, some even looked at if you were to multiply the two diagonal numbers.
English
The children have started looking at using powerful verbs and adjectives to improve their sentences. Some of them have started to look at clauses and compound sentences.
Pitch
We had our first week of pitch and the children enjoying having some time to explore the area and use the equipment. From next week, the children will be in groups to complete different rotations for the next 3 weeks.
Central Idea
Interdependence of living things can affect their survival.
Lines of Inquiry
An inquiry into…
- Different types of livings things (Form)
- What living things need to survive (Connection)
- Human responsibility to the survival of living things (Responsibility)
Next week, the children will continue their work on the classification of animals. They will be looking at the similarities and differences between the different classes. They will also begin their research on an animal of their choice.
An inquiry into:
- Rules of patterns and how these predict future terms.
- Equivalent number sentences using addition and subtraction
- Patterns and relationships in multiplication and division
Next week, the children will be looking at the the mathematical language used to describe patterns (terms, objects, linear, growing and square).
- Mon, Weds, Fri – borrow a BHS home reading book
- Tues, Thurs – read a book online from Big Universe
Mathematics
All children should aim to spend 30 minutes per week completing their assigned Mathletics tasks and/or practising their times tables.
Mandarin
All children are encouraged to take a reading book home on the days when they have Mandarin lessons.
