*Year 4 Sharing Day – new timings 8.45am – 10.30am

As you will be aware from Susan Chung’s email, a tree in the BHS playground was badly damaged during the typhoon and needs to be removed. This means the school hall is currently closed, therefore we have made some changes to the arrangements for Year 4 Sharing Day to accommodate this.
We would like to invite all parents to arrive at BHS for a revised 8.45am start for refreshments in the school foyer area.

BHS Lunchtime Experiences

At BHS we have lots of great clubs which our students really enjoy so Ms Chung challenged us to create even more!   As the student councillors we interviewed our friends and classmates to find out their favourite clubs. We were wondering if any parents would like to help run these clubs?  Do not panic! You do not need to be an expert or world champion, just enthusiastic and willing to help. This could be as an one off session or more, it is up to you. Please click on this google form to volunteer.  The Student Council will then get in contact with you to organise the club.  We will help with all the logistics such as venue, students and resources.

Thank you for any help you can give us.

We have linked so much of our recent work to our current Unit… English, Multimedia, Dance, Art and Music. The students have been working hard in all of these areas this week. This year, each class is sharing their beliefs through different artwork which you will be able to see in the school foyer next Friday.

Here are some photos of 4F working on creating some watercolour backgrounds for their calligraphy…

The students have been putting the finishing touches to their Poetry Anthologies by further editing and improving their work. We keep reminding ourselves about what poetry is… “The best possible words in the best possible order.” This helps us to really think about improvements we can make and ensure we are not using uninteresting or unnecessary words in our poems. Some of the students have begun publishing their final drafts of their poems and adding them to their Anthology.

Central Idea

Experiences and beliefs shape a person’s actions

Lines of Inquiry

An inquiry into…

  • How our actions affect our lives (Causation)
  • People’s many and varied beliefs  (Perspective)
  • The interconnectedness of beliefs, experience and actions  (Connection)

Next week is all about making our final preparations for Sharing Day. The children are working incredibly hard and are really excited about sharing their learning with you. They will be finalising their multimedia projects and be continuing to clarify their own beliefs, experiences and actions. The students will also be working on the dance routines they have choreographed to ensure their actions reflect the belief they are portraying.

Events have attributes that can be measured using appropriate tools

An inquiry into:

  1. The selection and correct use of standard units
  2. Solving real-life situations using time, temperature, length, mass and capacity

Next week the students will be continuing to investigate measurement using standard units. We will be continuing our inquiry into area and perimeter through further problem solving engagements.

Poetry
We will be focusing on the importance of editing as part of the writing process, particularly to ensure we have used the “best possible words in the besty possible order” within our poems. We may have chance to find out a little about Haiku poetry, too!
