Year 4 Update – Week 4
Parent Teacher Consultations
Our first Parent Teacher Consultations this year will be on Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th October. This is a valuable opportunity for you to find out more about your child’s learning in Inquiry, English and Mathematics through conversation with their class teacher. Bookings for appointments are made through the Gateway and this is available for families with more than one child at school from 3pm Monday 17th September and for all our families from 3pm Friday 21st September. This means that families with more than one child in school can get appointments on the same day. Many thanks indeed for your support with this, all will be revealed on Sharing Day!
We look forward to seeing you then.
Unit of Inquiry
This week we have continued preparing for our sharing day by practicing for our dance routines. In addition to this the students have also been working collaboratively to create a superhero whose beliefs are portrayed by their actions.
English
The students have continued to develop their understanding of a variety of poetry devices such as alliteration and personification in order to see how they can create mental imagery through their writing. They have also been practising using these in different forms of poetry such as Cinquain and emotions poems.
Maths
This week the students have begun working on measurement. They started this by investigating measurement statements about the human body to see if they were true or false. They are now learning to compare, order and convert different forms of measurement.
Central Idea
Experiences and beliefs shape a person’s actions
Lines of Inquiry
An inquiry into…
- How our actions affect our lives (Causation)
- People’s many and varied beliefs (Perspective)
- The interconnectedness of beliefs, experience and actions (Connection)
Next week, students will continue their dance lessons with the class teachers and Ms Kannis. They will be creating a multimedia project to showcase their own superheroes. The students will also be working on Art projects connected with their beliefs and having the opportunity to use Toontastic 3D software.
An inquiry into:
- The selection and correct use of standard units
- Solving real life situations using time, temperature, length, mass and capacity
Next week the students will be continuing to investigate measurement using standard units. We will be beginning to inquire into area and perimeter through a series of problem solving engagements.
- Mon, Weds, Fri – borrow a BHS home reading book
- Tues, Thurs – read a book online from Big Universe
Mathematics
