Year 4 Update – Week 4

Parent Teacher Consultations

Our first Parent Teacher Consultations this year will be on Tuesday 9th and Thursday  11th October. This is a valuable opportunity for you to find out more about your child’s learning in Inquiry, English and Mathematics through conversation with their class teacher.  Bookings for appointments are made through the Gateway and this is available for families with more than one child at school from 3pm Monday 17th September and for all our families from 3pm Friday 21st September.  This means that families with more than one child in school can get appointments on the same day.  For more details please see this week’s school newsletter. https://www.beaconhill.edu.hk/bhs-news/#newsletter-2018-19

English

The students have continued to develop their understanding of a variety of poetry devices such as alliteration and personification in order to see how they can create mental imagery through their writing. They have also been practising using these in different forms of poetry such as Cinquain and emotions poems.

Maths

This week the students have begun working on measurement. They started this by investigating measurement statements about the human body to see if they were true or false. They are now learning to compare, order and convert different forms of measurement.

Comprehension Strategies
Visualising and Self-monitoring
The students have been looking at the self-monitoring strategies that they use to help them understand the text they are reading. They have been looking at any problems they might come across when reading and chosen a strategy to help them understand. They then reflected on how this strategy helped them understand the text better.

Congratulations to the students who received Golden Book certificates during Monday’s Assembly!
