There is still time to sign up for this fun event on Friday 14th September. It is always a great evening of bowling, delicious food and opportunities to get to know more members of the BHS community.
The form for ordering tickets can be accessed here.
We look forward to seeing you there.

All of Year 4 have been lucky enough to have Ms Claudia and Ms Kannis to help support the classes with their dances ready for sharing. The children have enjoyed getting creative with their dance moves to their classes chosen songs. The students are using dance to show a belief and the actions that come from these beliefs. They have also been thinking about how they can create some Visual Art connected to this unit.

English

The students have enjoyed looking at Cinquain poems and analysing the features of this type of poetry. The children have been looking at using the right type of words for their poems. They have had to review their learning of verbs and adjectives to help them write their Cinquain poems. These poems will be added to their anthology ready to share with you on Year 4 Sharing Day.

Maths

As part of our work on place value, the students have been consolidating their knowledge of rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. Some of the classes have enjoyed using Kahoot! (online game-based learning platform) to test their knowledge of rounding.

Experiences and beliefs shape a person’s actions

Lines of Inquiry

An inquiry into…

  • How our actions affect our lives (Causation)
  • People’s many and varied beliefs  (Perspective)
  • The interconnectedness of beliefs, experience and actions  (Connection)

Next week, students will continue their dance lessons with the class teachers and Ms Kannis. They will be creating their own superheroes and thinking about the beliefs that their superhero might have. The students will then start to think about how their superheroes’ experiences can affect the actions they may choose to take.

Next week the students will continue consolidating their understanding of rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. They will also be completing a pre-assessment on measurement. This will be the new focus where they will be estimating, constructing, measuring, labelling and comparing perimeter and area of objects using standard units.

Poetry
We will continue to create our own Cinquain poems and start to look at another type of poetry. We will still be looking at the poetic devices we may find in some poems (metaphor, alliteration, similes, repitition, rhyme, onomatopeia).

Comprehension Strategies
Visualising and Self-monitoring
The students have been looking at the self-monitoring strategies that they use to help them understand the text they are reading. They have been looking at any problems they might come across when reading and chosen a strategy to help them understand. They then reflected on how this strategy helped them understand the text better.

Congratulations to the students who received Golden Book certificates during Monday’s Assembly!
