Home Learning!
Wow! We have been blown away by the creativity, enthusiasm and collaboration the children have demonstrated with their first Home Learning task around FOOD or MUSIC! We really cannot believe the standard and variety of the things we have seen. Mr. Harrison has had a look, too, and he is incredibly impressed as well. We can’t wait to see what everyone will come up with this time (see Home Learning section below). Thank you for supporting children with this work, we hoped you enjoyed it and also noticed their high levels of motivation and enthusiasm. Please feel free to send us any feedback, positive or negative!
Stream Study Trip – THANK YOU!
Thank you so much to the parents who accompanied us on our fantastic field trip this week. It was so wonderful for the children to have the opportunity to be outside (even in the extreme heat) and get up-close-and-personal with native HK wildlife. This really was an enjoyable and extremely educational trip for all of us.
Sharing the Planet:
Central Idea
Interdependence of living things can affect their survival.
Lines of Inquiry
An inquiry into…
- Different types of livings things (Form)
- What living things need to survive (Connection)
- Human responsibility to the survival of living things (Responsibility)
Children will be generating questions in order to further enhance their research into a species of their choice. This will also be supported by Ms. Jeves through our Information Literacy sessions, where we will be using the 5 Es inquiry model to support our thinking.
Pattern and Function
Central Idea
Events have attributes that can be measured using appropriate tools.
Lines of Inquiry
An inquiry into:
- Rules of patterns and how these predict future terms.
- Equivalent number sentences using addition and subtraction
- Patterns and relationships in multiplication and division
Children will continue to inquire into number and visual patterns, with a focus on patterns found in multiplication tables. We will be working on addition during our mental starters, too.
Writing to Inform
The children will continue to review sentence construction, features of sentences and parts of speech. They will also be practising their joined handwriting.
To support their reading development, please make sure of the following:
- Home reading should be fun not a chore.
- Keep the timing short, find a comfy, quiet space and have a chat about what your child is reading. This really helps to develop their comprehension skills.
- There is information about comprehension at the beginning of the journal, which you can use to help guide your discussion with your child. Please also refer to information your class teacher has sent out to you about how to help your child at home.
Mathematics
All children should aim to spend 30 minutes per week completing their assigned Mathletics tasks and/or practising their times tables.
Mandarin (All children are encouraged to take a reading book home on the days when they have Mandarin lessons.)
Ms Lynn (Home learning #4) – Please check your google classroom for details.
