Parent Teacher Consultations
Our first Parent Teacher Consultations this year will be on Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th October. This is a valuable opportunity for you to find out more about your child’s learning in Inquiry, English and Mathematics through conversation with their class teacher. Bookings for appointments are made through the Gateway and this is available for families with more than one child at school from 3pm Monday 17th September and for all our families from 3pm Friday 21st September. This means that families with more than one child in school can get appointments on the same day. For more details please see this week’s school newsletter. https://www.beaconhill.edu.hk/bhs-news/#newsletter-2018-19
Our exciting Mid-Autumn market stalls will take place on Thursday 20th September. Children are encouraged to bring no more than $50 so they can purchase lanterns, fruits and mooncakes. More information can be found on the newsletter.
Wow! What an amazing assembly by 3W! Congratulations to all the children, Ms Wu and everyone who helped out over the past few weeks. It was obvious that all the hard work and effort paid off as everyone in the assembly hall enjoyed their performance! We absolutely loved the Mindranger 9000!!!
Even though we have not finished Unit 1, we are always thinking ahead in Year 3! Last Monday the children took part in a provocation to demonstrate that not everything is fair in our world. The focus was on food and how there are people around the world with more than enough food and others who unfortunately do no have enough to eat and are in a constant state of hunger. The children were divided into groups of 10 were each child received a plate. Some children received an empty plate whilst others just had a quarter slice of bread. Some children were lucky enough to have received a plate full of bread and biscuits. The social experiment was very interesting to watch and we received valuable feedback from the children. Please take the time to talk to your child about the provocation and discuss their feelings about the activity.
Effective communication can be enhanced through different methods.
We will be inquiring into:
-
How signs and symbols facilitate effective communication (form)
-
How the arts can be used to communicate (function)
-
The reasons and impact for communicating in different ways (causation)
Next week we will inquire into different forms of communication such as braille, number codes and modern forms of communication. The children will gain a deeper understanding of the reasons why people would chose to communicate in a certain way.
Next week the children will continue their inquiry into our Shape and Space unit by consolidating their understanding of symmetrical patterns and 3D shape.
In number maths, the children will revisit the place value unit and inquire into the rounding of numbers to the nearest 10s, nearest 100’s and 1000’s
Mathletics passwords are in your child’s diary.
Congratulations to:
3G Marco Ishak
3M Aidan Kwan
