Year 3 Update Week 22

As part of our new Unit of Inquiry, we would like the children to bring in an old white shirt, preferably adult size. The children will use the shirts as a ‘lab coat’ as part of their forces unit. Please note, the children will be using the old shirts to write new vocabulary on.
In order to support the Year 1’s preparations for Sharing Day, Year 3’s Mandarin lesson on Thursdays will be switched to Fridays from the week of 29th January for six weeks.
Book Drive
Brody, Ryan and Muchan in Year 6 are organising a Book Drive to help spread our love of reading. The Sony Corporation will collect books to create mobile libraries in South Africa for schools that do not have enough books for children to read. If you have books that are:
Please send them to school. There will be a collection box in the school foyer from Monday 21st January. Any books you can donate will help spread the enjoyment of reading.
Old Electronics Collection
Mr Lowe and Ms Mak are hoping to collect old electronic or battery operated items and toys that have moving parts that are no longer needed as part of our Makers stock. If you have anything you can donate please send it to school and put it in the collection box in the foyer labelled Old Electronics.
Lunch forms can now be collected from Ms Anna at reception for new registrants.
Year 3 Playdate Database
Arranging playdates to help your children develop their social skills were a major discussion points this week at parent consultations. Please find linked below documents to parent/ guardian contacts for children in Year 3, feel free to utilise them to help organise playdates for your child. The documents are free for you to edit so please make sure you read the important information on the top of the page before you add your contacts in. Please be mindful of others and only edit your contacts.

BHS Lunchtime Experiences: A message from our Student Council
At BHS we have lots of great clubs which our students really enjoy so Ms Chung challenged us to create even more! As the student councillors we interviewed our friends and classmates to find out their favourite clubs. We were wondering if any parents would like to help run these clubs? Do not panic! You do not need to be an expert or world champion, just enthusiastic and willing to help. This could be as an one off session or more, it is up to you. Please click on this google form to volunteer. The Student Council will then get in contact with you to organise the club. We will help with all the logistics such as venue, students and resources.

The children continued to with their exploration of procedural texts and had a go at writing up their own following the features. Year 3 continued with their inquiry into forces and challenged themselves to use key words from Scientific inquiry when talking about the scientific process of fair-testing, changing variables and making hypotheses. The children also continued to collect key scientific terms for their lab coats and vocabulary booklets.
The children used their creative side to engage in art activities that are linked to forces. They enhanced their shading skills using pointillism and also produced beautiful paintings using magnets. Ask you child to tell you about their art work.
The children absolutely loved being in their house teams during sports day. They had so much fun taking part in all the activities. The winning team will be announced at Golden Book Assembly on Monday.

Next week, the children will continue with their investigations related to force and motion and discuss Newton’s laws of motion. They will also continue to build on their scientific vocabulary and record the definitions on their science coats or vocabulary booklets.

Next week, the children will be introduced to data handing and the ways in which data can be represented. The children will experience collecting data and filling in a table and representing their findings.
Next week, the children will continue to have a go at writing their own procedures. They will also revisit narrative writing and explore sentence structure.

Next week the children will continue to learn to visualise to aid comprehension when they are reading.

Spelling Journals
Children should bring their spelling journals home every day to practise their spelling words.
Mathletics passwords are in your child’s diary. The children should check their accounts regularly and complete any assigned tasks.
