BHS Lunchtime Experiences: A message from our Student Council
At BHS we have lots of great clubs which our students really enjoy so Ms Chung challenged us to create even more! As the student councillors we interviewed our friends and classmates to find out their favourite clubs. We were wondering if any parents would like to help run these clubs? Do not panic! You do not need to be an expert or world champion, just enthusiastic and willing to help. This could be as an one off session or more, it is up to you. Please click on this google form to volunteer. The Student Council will then get in contact with you to organise the club. We will help with all the logistics such as venue, students and resources.
Thank you for any help you can give us.
In Unit of Inquiry this week, the children demonstrated their knowledge of all that they had learnt about homes in Hong Kong by completing a summative assessment and writing an information report. The teachers were delighted with the way in which the children were able to use the features of a report, especially the use of sub-headings and paragraphs!
In Maths the children continued their exploration of time (half past, five-minute intervals past/ to the hour and quarter past/ to). The children also learnt about using calendars as another form of measuring time.
Check out some photos from the week!
To mark the end of our Unit, Adrian Ferguson, a Civil Engineer spoke to the children to recap on their knowledge on all that they had learnt about homes, structures and the materials used during construction.
Central idea:
Scientists learn about forces and motion through the scientific process
The children will be inquiring into:
forces affect the motion of objects (connection)
Types of forces (form)
scientific process (function)
Next week, as part of our provocation, the children will be exposed to a variety of experiments in order to get the children thinking about scientific processes.
Multiplication and Division are related and are used to solve problems
The children will be learning to:
- The roles of symbols and the language of multiplication and division
- Mental and written strategies for multiplication and division
- The relationship between multiplication and division
Next week the children will revisit division and expand their thinking using open- ended learning engagements.
Next week the children will be introduced to their new text type – writing to instruct. The children will deconstruct different text in order to explore the features of a procedure.
Reading
Comprehension Strategy: Visualising
Next week the children will learn to visualise to aid comprehension when they are reading.
Congratulations to these students for being awarded a Golden Book Certificate this week!
