We here in Year 3 have had a wonderful and busy start to our new school year. The children have been brimming with excitement and have been especially excited about catching up with their friends, working in their new classes and with their new teachers.
Stories of adventures from holidays have been exchanged, new routines navigated and expectations outlined in anticipation for the upcoming school year.
Spending time with our BHS friends has been a highlight whether we have been eating, playing games or just simply reading.
Once again we have been amazed by their grit, humour, maturity and determination at what is, as us teachers keep reminding ourselves, just the start of year 3.
Welcome back!
Effective communication can be enhanced through different methods.
We will be inquiring into:
-
How signs and symbols facilitate effective communication (form)
-
How the arts can be used to communicate (function)
-
The reasons and impact for communicating in different ways (causation)
This week in Unit of Inquiry, we visited the airport to inquire into how signs and symbols facilitate effective communication. Our outing to the airport proved to be a huge success and it was wonderful to meet many of our parent volunteers, without whom such excursions would be impossible. So once again a huge thank you from the year 3 team to those that helped.
The children learnt and absorbed so much about signs and symbols and it proved to be a very informative way to help them tune into the different ways in which we communicate. The students have shown in many different ways and on many different levels their abilities to adapt, adjust and evolve in the face of so many new experiences, opportunities and challenges.
Next week, we will be inquiring into the many different ways we can communicate.
We have began our place value unit. The children have been demonstrating different ways to show their understanding of number through written form, standard form, expanded form and through pictures. Ask your child to tell you about the story “A Place for Zero” and how Zero found its place. Next week we will begin to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.
Mathletics passwords are in your child’s diary.
Congratulations to:
