Colours Day Fundraiser
Thank you to all the parents for supporting our fantastic week of Action. The children have been involved in lots of lunchtime activities and helped to raise a lot of money that will be donated to Sunshine Action. This morning the children took part in a Monster March or Readathon. Thank you again for helping to raise funds and sponsor your child in these fundraisers. Ask your child how far they ran or how many pages they read. Some very lucky teachers also took part in ‘Dunk the Teacher’. All pictures of the fundraising events will be made available on the school website soon.
This week during Unit of Inquiry the children took part in a provocation for our next unit, Children’s Rights, the green house, Diversity, were given special privileges all day on Tuesday. They were not told why, but simply allowed to use pen, choose where to sit, stand first in line, choose what they wanted to do in PE, start lunch earlier etc.
In Maths we continued to examine 3D shapes and their properties. The children learnt about the vocabulary connected to 3D shapes. Ask your child about edges, faces and vertices.
In English the children have continued to focus on the reading comprehension strategy: Questioning. We have been using our questioning books to write down our questions as we read. Our new text type focus is Narrative and the children completed a pre-assessment for this. Ask your child about the Narrative they wrote.
People worldwide have access to rights and opportunities that can look different.
- Difference between needs and wants (Perspective)
- Children’s rights and responsibilities (Responsibility)
- How children rights are protected (Reflection)
After half term we will be looking at the difference between wants and needs. The children will also look into the different Children’s rights and choosing a right that interests them to focus on throughout this unit.
Addition and Subtraction are related and are used to solve problems. After half term the children will begin addition and subtraction.
Mathletics passwords are in your child’s diary. Please make sure that an adult supports your child when working through the activities.
At school we often talk to the children about taking on challenges and working towards our own small goals in order to be able to make bigger achievements. This is a big part of our focus on Growth Mindset. If you would like to know more, please take a look at this book by Dr Carol Dweck, or catch one of her youtube videos or TED talks. Our Growth Mindset team will be putting a parent presentation on in October to explain further.
