Year 5 Market Day & Sharing Day
The Year 5 children have been busy creating some fantastic products handmade products to sell for their Market Day which will be held next Friday, 16th March in the hall from 11:00am – 2pm. All year groups will be visiting the market place during the day and we would suggest that the children bring around $80 to spend. Please note that due to the space available we can only allow the children and teachers to attend.
All profits from the market day will be donated to the Immanuel Kindergarten in South Sudan. This is a charity that Mrs. Quinn, one of our ex-staff members, has been involved in for a number of years. It is a charity that we have supported in the past and would like to support again, especially in light of the extremely difficult situation that many find themselves in South Sudan.
- To have fun

You can support your child by helping them create and rehearse their dance.
Scientists learn about forces and motion through the scientific process
- Types of forces (form)
- Forces affect the motion of objects (connection)
- Scientific process (function)
Next week, the children will carry out their own experiment. With guidance, they will choose if they want to use a helicopter, parachute or their 3D printed car. They will then decide which which variable they want to change and design their own investigations to compare them. They will record all of this on the scientific inquiry cycle and interpret their data to see if it matched their hypothesis.
The children will be inquiring into:
- The roles of symbols and the language of multiplication and division
- Mental and written strategies for multiplication and division
- The relationship between multiplication and division
Next week the children will continue to work through open ended tasks and practise their recall of multiplication facts.
Mathletics passwords are in your child’s diary. Please make sure that an adult supports your child when working through the activities.
This is the final week we will be spending on procedural texts. The students will write their own procedure independently. We will also look at grammatical features of this text type, including use of the infinitive (bossy verbs) and adverbs.
Visualising is a very important part of reading and makes reading meaningful. During this unit we will be helping the children to create images and ‘movies’ in their heads as they read a text. At home they can practise creating images when they read and also when they are read to. Talk together about what you see and see if it is different.
