In maths we have been looking at the likelihood of various scenarios, using the words ‘certain’, ‘likely’ ‘unlikely’ and ‘impossible’.
Several students performed in the BHS dance off and were very good. The audience were excited and cheered them on!
As our trip was cancelled, we began the new UOI a week early, with the children beginning to learn about geography and the continents of the world. For our provocation the children completed a map of the playground and joined in a treasure hunt, using an atlas. It was very exciting!
Central idea:
Transport systems are directly related to the needs of a community.
Lines of inquiry:
- Features/parts of transportation systems (form)
- Decisions involved in using transportation (function)
- How elements of a transport system connect to meet the needs of a community (connection)
The children will go on their planned journey to Discovery Bay. On the way they will be thinking about the different transport they are on and how the different systems are connected.
After the trip the children will make comparisons between their journey and those of their classmates. They will be thinking about cost, journey time, comfort and enjoyment.
Position and Direction
This week the children will be learning to describe position and direction using mathematical vocabulary for example, left, right, forwards, backwards, North, South, East and West.
Please continue to complete the activities on Matheletics.
Please continue to practise number bonds to 10, 20, 30 and 40:
We continued to learn about green and red thoughts this week. Practise understanding the green and red thoughts your family have during the week. Remember to relax for 10 minutes without any screens distracting you. Your child should try to practise being brave every day and continue to praise your child for such efforts. Home activities are on page 37 of the pupil book this week.
Here are some stories that you could read with your child this week:
- “Supposing” by Frances Thomas & Ross Collins
- “Waiting for Mum” by Helen Lunn & Anna Pignataro
Mandarin – All children are encouraged to take a reading book home on the days when they have Mandarin lessons.
