2K will now have their PE lesson on a Thursday. This means that the children in 2K will need to wear their PE kit to school on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
With the weather changing, it is very warm in the classroom. The children must wear top layers which they can remove to avoid feeling faint whilst working. All children must wear a BHS hat during breaks, lunch times and PE lessons.
BHS Dance Off 2018
Our BHS Dance Off has been postponed until after Easter.  Our student council will be sharing more information next week.  Important things to remember for the Dance off are:
  • To have fun
  • You perform in groups or solo
  • Your dance should be around 1 minute
  • heats for the competition will take place at various lunchtimes after Easter
  • there will be a lower school and upper competition

You can support your child by helping them create and rehearse their dance.

BHS Clothes Drive

The student council are pleased to be supporting a local environmental charity, Redress, by taking part in their ‘Get Redressed Spring Clothing Drive 2018 ’from Monday 26th March to Friday 27th April where we will be asking you to bring in your own unwanted clothing to benefit numerous local HK charities.

To make your contribution, please send your unwanted clothes into school with your child.  There will be a collection box in the school foyer

Redress is looking for good quality clothes, accessories and shoes – from high-end designer brands to high street fashion for women, men and children.*

Donations will be collected and carefully sorted by Redress for distribution to local HK charities. Top quality clothing will be sold to raise funds for Redress in a pop-up shop following the drive, whilst the clothes that cannot be used for the charity beneficiaries will be kept for Redress’ new circular economy initiative and ultimately recycled into new yarns!

Please support Redress’ work to cut waste out of fashion!

For more information please visit the Redress website: https://www.redress.com.hk

Warmest wishes,

The Student Council

The week started with the children arriving in all their amazing outfits to celebrate our Chinese Cultural Activities morning. Everyone had a great time taking part in all the different activities from fan painting and ink writing to traditional tea drinking. Please click HERE for lots of photos taken during the day.

The children had a wonderful time on Tuesday exploring and using different forms of transport in Hong Kong. Thank you to all the parents who were able to come and help the children on the trip.

The children have written a recount about their trip and discussed the positive, minus and interesting aspects of each of the different forms of transport they used.  Please CLICK HERE for more photos from the excursion.

The children were very lucky to have a visiting author in school. Sarah Brennan came to read her new book ‘Desmond Dog’.  The children enjoyed finding out how she got her ideas for the story and her research into Hong Kong and pirates.

We had many children making ‘Trashion’ for the 50th Fortnight and we have had one entry for the wheat grass and cress growing.

Central idea

Transport systems are directly related to the needs of a community.

Lines of inquiry:

  • Features/parts of transportation systems (form)
  • Decisions involved in using transportation (function)
  • How elements of a transport system connect to meet the needs of a community (connection)

The children will be going on a trip to Kowloon Tong MTR station. They will be looking at the different exits and how they link to different transport systems such as buses, coaches, taxis and walkways. They will be discussing how the different systems support each each.

Central Idea:

Measurement involves comparing, ordering and sequencing objects and events

Lines of inquiry:

  • Measure and compare mass of real objects.
    •  Choose objects of the same size to use for measuring and count the units to balance an object; e.g. same-sized pebbles to say how heavy something is in pebbles.
    •  Heft or use a balance beam to say which is heavier of two visually similar-sized objects; e.g. tins filled with different materials.

The children will be taking part in various learning experiences which will involve them:

  1. Hefting different objects to determine which is lighter/heavier.
  2. Heft objects to estimate weight.
  3. Weigh and compare weights of objects.

Measurement activities are available on Mathletics.

Please continue to practise number bonds to 10, 20, 30 and 40:

Our English focus is narrative. We will work on this throughout the unit. The children will continue to be authors and illustrators and complete their own books.
Please continue to read with your child at home and ask them to retell the story. Please encourage your child to write down the title of the text they choose from Big Universe.
No Golden this week due to our Chinese Cultural Activity morning

Transport
Over the Easter holidays, why not explore HK by travelling on different forms of transport. How many different forms of transport can you go on? Think about their cost, speed, comfort and any other interesting things about them.

Fun Friends
We have continued the fun friends program today. Please find the log in details for your child in their diary. The follow up homework for your children is on page 11 and 12 of the pupil book. Please look out for the yellow stars for suggestions of fun things to do.
Spelling
Your child will be tested on the third list of spellings on Wednesday 28th March.
Reading
Please be reminded that in Year 2, your child will not bring home a reading book on Tuesday or Thursday they will need to read on Big Universe. Children login and select ‘My Library’ from the top of the page. At the right hand side in the ‘Filters’ section they can select the ‘Grade Level’ of books. If the children select kindergarten, grade 1 and 2 this is the most appropriate reading age for them (5-8 years).

Mandarin – All children are encouraged to take a reading book home on the days when they have Mandarin lessons.
