Year 1 Update – Wk 1

Monday 21st – Yellow group until 12.00pm

Tuesday 22nd – Friday 25th – All Year 1 until 12.00pm

Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th – All Year 1 until 1.00pm. Children must bring their lunch.

Wednesday 30th onwards – All Year 1 – All day

Tuesday 29th August – Wine and Cheese – 5.00pm

Tuesday 29th August – Meet the Teacher – 6.00pm in the school hall

A big welcome to all our Year 1 children. They all seem very happy, enthusiastic and ready to learn. We have been impressed with the way in which they have settled into class routines and interacted with new and familiar friends.

Snacks

Please remember to pack a small healthy snack in a named container or bag. The children have 20 minutes to eat their snack and play with their friends so please make sure that it is something that they can manage in this time.

Hats

All children at BHS are required to wear a Beacon Hill School hat. We have a policy that if they do not have a hat they must stay in the undercover area.

Labelling

Please ensure that all your child’s belongings are clearly labelled with their full name and class. This includes shoes, socks, water bottles, bags, snack and lunch boxes.

Diaries

This week your child has brought home a BHS Home School Diary. Please make sure that this is checked daily for important information and letters that need to be returned to school. If you have not yet returned your child’s Home School Profile please make sure that this is given to your class teacher next week. Thank you.

maths

Next week the children will be starting a unit based around number sense and we will be playing games, singing songs and reading stories about numbers.

The children will be talking about and recording the experiences they have enjoyed at school so far. We will also be starting to encourage the children to see themselves as readers and will be sharing different types of books that they like to read.

On Monday mornings we have a whole school Golden Book assembly. During this time one child from each class receives a Golden Book certificate in recognition of their achievement and effort from the previous week. Year 1 will be going to their first assembly on Monday 28th August.

Uniform

PE uniform needs to be worn on these days:

All Year 1 classes: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

On some of these days the children will be attending PMP and will need to remove their shoes and socks. Please help your child at to practise doing this at home independently.

Parent Helpers

If you are interested in becoming a parent helper please look out for the letter in the Home School Diary and return to school as soon as possible.
