Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students
Settling into School
This week the children and staff have settled back into school and the routines inside and outside of their classroom. Our year 1 students have done so well and will soon be moving to full days. Congratulations! Our Year 3-6 students enjoyed a humorous start to Monday morning with the Punchline Comedy show which was followed up with workshops for our older students. It was a great experience for all.
What is Wellbeing? What are the Five Ways of Wellbeing we use at BHS?
Wellbeing is about feeling good and enjoying what you do. If we feel good…we do good! People all over the world are trying to boost their wellbeing and here at BHS we are doing the same. We have tweaked a model from the UK which outlines ‘Five Ways of Wellbeing’. Each of these ways combine to make a difference to how we feel. Here is a brief description of the 5 and what they mean at Beacon Hill.
Take Notice – Open your eyes to the world. Understand, appreciate and be grateful.
Keep Learning – Be ready for any challenge. Grow, get smarter, have choices and go places.
Connect – Take time to reach out and understand. Have fun, be patient, be kind and be a good friend.
Be Active – Be ready for any challenge. Live life to the full. Get up and get moving!
Give – Spread happiness and think kind. Show the world we care.
This week’s assembly linked to ‘Connect’. The theme was Empathy and we began by showing the students this video which demonstrates what empathy is. We defined empathy in this way: Empathy is when you are able to understand and care about how someone else is feeling. Please ask your child about this and give praise and encouragement when you see them showing empathy to others.
Meet the Teachers
We are looking forward to seeing you all at the Meet the Teacher evening next Wednesday 28 August. Timings and venues are as follows.
Year 1, 2 and 3 parents – Meet in the hall for a 6pm start, followed by visiting your child’s classroom from 6.15-6.45pm to meet their teacher.
Year 4,5 and 6* parents – Meet in the hall for a 6.30pm start followed by visiting your child’s classroom from 6.45-7.15pm to meet their teacher.
This is an important time to connect with the staff, your child’s teacher and to become more familiar with the routines, organisation and guidelines associated with your child’s class. See you there!
*Stephen Loggie, Principal of Island School will be presenting to prospective parents from 5.45-6.20. Please read the Year 6 update for more information about this presentation.

Action in the PYP is when students are inspired through their learning and their experiences to make a difference to their lives or the community connected to real life issues and opportunities. We would like to celebrate our students taking action outside of school. If your child has taken any action, we would be happy to share that with the BHS community through this newsletter and through our Facebook page. Please email details and a photograph to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk
At BHS we value the importance of developing the ‘whole’ child and this means valuing their achievement and interests outside of school. If your child has achieved something special, we would be happy to share that with the BHS community through this newsletter and through our Facebook page. Please email details and a photograph to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk
July 27 – Trevor Tsang (5W) participated in the Round of 32 draw in ‘The 10 year old Junior National Tennis Championship’ organised by Chinese Taipei Tennis Association(台塑盃全國青少年 10 歲級網球錦標賽 (D-3 未來級)競賽) in Taipei. He managed to win his first 3 matches in the morning session although Trevor couldn’t manage to enter the 16th round. During his time in Taipei, Trevor received intensive physical training and matches. He and his teammates lived together, trained together, supported each other and had fun together. All in all, Taipei was a very good learning experience for him to manage sport psychology and to live independently without his parents.Trevor is now an Elite player under HKTA and keen to continue to pursue his interest in tennis. Well done Trevor!

Words from HKSMSA: In view of recent mass activities in various districts. Please consider the current social situation before enrolment. The enrolment of the Festival will proceed as scheduled. During the Festival period, should there be any unpredictable social events, the Association will have to cancel specific groups or even all classes for the safety of stakeholders. Under such circumstances, no alternative arrangement or refund of the entry fees will be made. If the Festival is held as scheduled, parents should first consider their own safety in whatever cases, and decide whether to proceed to or stay at the event venues. For enquiries, please contact HKSMSA at 2761-3877.
