Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students
As we get closer to Chinese New Year I can feel the excitement brewing in the school. The children are busily practising their performances for assembly and the school is decorated with lovely artwork and of course our beautiful blossom tree. Please refer to the email sent last week with all of the CNY organisation.
Lost Property
Our lost property basket is overflowing with winter jackets and jerseys and the cooler weather has only just begun! Please ensure all clothing is labelled so if children do leave it in the playground, it can be returned to them.
Government Education Grant
An email was sent this evening with details of how to claim this grant. Please refer to the procedures outlined in the email. Signed forms are to be handed into our school office. Please do not send to ESFC or to the Education Bureau.
Dress in Traditional Chinese Clothing
We are encouraging all students and staff to wear Chinese clothing to celebrate CNY on Thursday 23 January. This will be a fun day where the children will be involved in cultural activities and will also get to see the Lion Dance performance to bring in the year of the Rat.
Kind regards,
Brenda Cook
Principal

Graphic Novel Writing Competition
Congratulations to all those students who entered our Graphic Novel Writing Competition. This ran last term and we received stories from children in all year groups some of whom worked independently and some in small groups. The entries were varied and many showed the mix of great drawing, interesting plotline, snappy speech and humour that make graphic novels so popular with our readers at BHS. Originally the prize for our First Place winners was to listen to Dav Pilkey, the creator of Captain Underpants and Dogman, talk about his writing. Unfortunately, his plans to visit Hong Kong changed but his publishers Scholastic here in Hong Kong very kindly donated some goodies for our winners. Here is a list of the winning authors and photos of some of them!

Community Choir
Our BHS Community Choir has begun again! This is open to all parents of BHS students, BHS staff, and alumni students and parents of BHS. The choir will be rehearsing on Thursday evenings from 7pm. We would hope to perform at the Chinese New Year Assembly. No auditions or previous singing experience – just lots of enthusiasm needed!

Box of Hope
Action in the PYP is when students are inspired through their learning and their experiences to make a difference to their lives or the community connected to real life issues and opportunities. We would like to celebrate our students taking action outside of school. If your child has taken any action, we would be happy to share that with the BHS community through this newsletter and through our Facebook page. Please email details and a photograph to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk
At BHS we value the importance of developing the ‘whole’ child and this means valuing their achievement and interests outside of school. If your child has achieved something special, we would be happy to share that with the BHS community through this newsletter and through our Facebook page. Please email details and a photograph to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk
