Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students,

Happy Holidays and wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

We’ve had a wonderful first term of school and have much to be proud of.  It’s time for students and staff, and parents too, I hope, to recharge and relax in preparation for the next term ahead.

It was such a wonderful Christmas celebration last night.  The singing from the three Choirs; Junior, Chamber and the Community Choir was sensational.  Thanks to the PTA for their organisation, the staff for their training and enthusiasm and to the parents for supporting the event.

Discos and Class Parties

The Discos were very popular – thanks to the PTA for their organisation and to the staff for helping out with supervision.  Mr Pheasant’s play-list was very popular!

Class parties are well underway and children have thoroughly enjoyed celebrating the end of term festivities.

Sports Teams

Our sports teams continue to represent our school with pride, showing great sportsmanship. They are not phased by coming up against stronger opposition at times and the coaches tell me that they are improving each game and always aim to do their best. Thanks to all of the students who have represented the school in a sporting competition this term and to the coaches for their endless energy and support of the players.

Big Business Market Day – Year 5

It was wonderful to see the hall full of Year 5 parents this morning to celebrate the wonderful achievement of their children. Year 5 students have been incredibly inventive and hard working, creative entrepreneurs.  They have worked in teams to set up a small business to sell goods and have marketed these goods in a professional way through websites that they have personally developed.  It’s been an impressive unit of inquiry where the learning has been engaging, and ‘real-life’ giving the students hands-on experience of the challenges and celebrations of running your own business.

A special thanks to the staff who have been involved in this wonderful process and to the parents for your support too.  Well done Year 5 students – we are so proud of you!  I’m wondering how I’m going to spend my money on market day with all the wonderful array of goodies to choose from!

Action in the PYP is when students are inspired through their learning and their experiences to make a difference to their lives or the community connected to real life issues and opportunities.  We would like to celebrate our students taking action outside of school. If your child has taken any action, we would be happy to share that with the BHS community through this newsletter and through our Facebook page.  Please email details and a photograph to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk

At BHS we value the importance of developing the ‘whole’ child and this means valuing their achievement and interests outside of school.  If your child has achieved something special, we would be happy to share that with the BHS community through this newsletter and through our Facebook page.  Please email details and a photograph to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk

December 11 – Ethan Cheung (2F) participated in the 71st Hong Kong Speech Festival in the category of Solo Verse Speaking. He used the piece “Who’s Afraid” by John Foster and was awarded 87 points which won him second place. Well done Ethan!
