Dear Parents,

It has been another busy and productive year at BHS. The students have worked very hard throughout the year and have enjoyed many different opportunities presented to them.  The BHS staff are a dedicated and professionally committed group of individuals. Thank you to our BHS staff for making a difference and keeping the children central to all that we do.  This Monday, the students and staff treated me to a lovely surprise of a video, song and dance.  I am deeply touched by the kind gesture and amazed at their ability to keep it a closely guarded secret. I have had an incredible year as Acting Principal and thank the BHS Community – students, parents and staff, for their incredible support, and will be stepping back into my role as Vice Principal next year and look forward to working closely with the Year 1 and 2 students, parents and teachers.

Cinderella & Rockerfella

I am so enormously proud of our Year 6 students this week. Their performance of Cinderella & Rockerfella was superb. I along with many other teachers felt such pride when we watched them dazzle us with their spectacular acting, dancing, singing and technical skills on sound and lighting! I hope the memories of being in this outstanding performance stay with them always. Congratulations to the Year 6 teachers and EAs, Mr Gibson, Miss Kannis & Miss Claudia who have so calmly, skillfully and creatively facilitated and enabled our students to rise up to the challenge.

Year 6 Graduation Events

Not only have the Year 6 students had a special week with their incredible performance of Cinderella & Rockerfella, but they also celebrated with a Graduation ceremony,  lunch and final assembly. It was lovely to have the Year 6 parents join us for the children’s very last important events at BHS.  We wish them all the very best of luck in their future Secondary Schools.

Congratulations to the Recipients of the Robert Lyden Award:

6D: Lianna Wong & Shafay Khan

6H: Katelyn Ma & Koji Lam

6Y: Natalie Man & Ricci Lee

Staff Farewell

Best wishes to all of our leaving staff and families. We have formally farewelled these colleagues this week and expressed gratitude to all of them for their wonderful contribution to BHS over the years. This academic year we will say farewell to:

Mr James Whyman – Mr Whyman has been a wonderful addition to the Year 4 team this year and has made a huge contribution to BHS & ESF through his Art Club, with students work being selected as part of the ESF Art Exhibition at K11 Mall earlier this year.  James will be missed by all.

Mrs Iriz York – Mrs York joined BHS this year and quickly settled into her role as a Year 1 EA.  Iriz has been a hardworking and dedicated member of the team and will be a huge loss to BHS.

Ms Wanning Gong (Elodie) – Ms Gong has been a Mandarin EA with us for x years and has thrown herself into the life of the school.  Supporting Chinese New Year activities and being the pianist for the Junior Choir.  Elodie will go on to become a Mandarin Teacher at Shrewsbury International School, HK.  Congratulations!

Mrs Jane Farago – Mrs Farago joined BHS back in 2008.  In that time, she has worked across different year groups and held the role of Environmental Coordinator, leading many ‘green’ initiatives at BHS.  We wish Jane and her family all the best as they start a new chapter of their lives in Zurich.

Mrs Raju Jagtiani – Mrs Jagtiani (Mrs J to the students!) is retiring after 14 years at BHS.  Raju started off as a supply EA but her qualities and skills were soon recognised and she became a permanent member of staff.  Raju has displayed a passion and dedication for working with students and will be sorely missed.  We hope you enjoy spending more time with your family.

The school would like to recognise and thank them for their hard work and support. We wish them well in their future.

Thank you to Mr Geoff who has stepped in as a Supply EA in 4F and 2D this year.  We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Attendance Records on Reports

Apologies for the inconvenience caused by the technical problem we experienced with the attendance records on the end of year report.  All reports have now been updated to reflect the accurate attendance days.

Well done Anissa, Koemi and Travis!

BHS

At BHS we value the importance of developing the ‘whole’ child and this means valuing their achievement and interests outside of school.  If your child has achieved something special, we would be happy to share that with the BHS community through this newsletter.  Please email details and a photograph to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk

Action in the PYP at BHS

June 22 – Liam Wong (5F) learned the importance of giving back to our community on his first experience at selling charity flags for ‘Hong Kong Student Aid Society’.  He’s has joined many charity runs and walks for the community before, but this time, he wanted to volunteer his time and effort to raising funds for ‘Family Energy”.  “Family Energy” aims to give early interventions to less fortunate families and children who are at risk of family violence.  Liam was very eager to help bring awareness thru selling flags to the public.  He also had the opportunity to challenge himself to approach strangers on the street to sell the charity flags.  It was a fun experience for him and he found it both rewarding for himself and for the community. Fantastic work Liam!

BHS

Action in the PYP is when students are inspired through their learning and their experiences to make a difference to their lives or the community connected to real life issues and opportunities.  We would like to celebrate our students taking action outside of school.

Please email examples to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk, and they will share through our newsletter.

Susan Chung

Before we know it yet another school year flies by.  We wish to thank everyone who supported the PTA and helped raise an amazing $260,000 for the school.

This could not have happened without you, the students, parents, senior management team, teachers, education assistants, staff and caretakers who have all taken part in some way over the past year.  These funds will go towards sponsorship of Mathletics licence, Xmas, Easter & CNY celebrations and Wellbeing projects for the school.
