Dear Parents,

Japanese Language Group – ESF Celebration of Language

Last Friday, the 6th Bi-annual ESF Celebration of Language was held at Sha Tin Junior School.  Students who have Korean or Japanese as a mother tongue language were invited to perform.  Students from our Japanese Mother Tongue Language group came together with students from KJS to perform a song in Japanese.  Well done to: Kei Balenieri, Yuto Balenieri, Martin Chan, Mona Chen, Tsyon Go, and Shogo Nishida, who performed brilliantly.  Thank you to the parents for their ongoing support with ensuring this programme continues at BHS.

Wellbeing Focus

Last week in 4W’s assembly, the students were challenged to do one thing linked to the Five ways to wellbeing: Give, Take Notice, Keep Learning, Connect and Be Active.  As we have a long weekend this week, talk to your child about something you could do together to look after your wellbeing.  I would love to hear about some of them!

Health Alert

We have had several cases of Gastroenteritis in school this week. Vomit and diarrhea are the main symptoms of viral gastroenteritis. Other symptoms include headache, fever, and abdominal cramps. In general, the symptoms begin 1 – 2 days following infection with a virus that causes gastroenteritis.

According to the recommendation from Centre for Health Protection (CHP), we would like to ask parents/guardians to keep your child/ren home if he/she presents with fever, nausea, abdominal cramps, vomiting or diarrhea symptoms. We have been advised by CHP that children should not return to school within 48 hours of displaying symptoms.

Our site staff have stepped up the cleaning and are carrying out a deep clean of the classrooms and shared area space.

Student Achievement

June 1 – Micah Wong (3G) has participated in the Spartan challenge. The race is 2KM long with a lot of obstacles and muddy puddles! Micah enjoyed it a lot although it did mean he finished the race with mud all over his shirt, legs and shoes! Well done Micah!

BHS

June 1 – Eunice Wong (3G) participated in The 47th Hong Kong Open Dance Contest under category Children Ballet Group Dance, and her group won silver medal. She was so happy to be selected in the group, and gave her best efforts for training before the competition. Besides dancing skills, she has learnt a lot about the collaboration and coordination between the group members. Well done Eunice!

BHS

June 2 – Jake Wong (3M) took part in the Active Kids Climbing Competition and managed to come 2nd place!  Well done Jake for hanging on by your fingertips!

BHS

At BHS we value the importance of developing the ‘whole’ child and this means valuing their achievement and interests outside of school.  If your child has achieved something special, we would be happy to share that with the BHS community through this newsletter.  Please email details and a photograph to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk

Action in the PYP at BHS

June 3 – Gabbie Patience (6H) has been participating in the mass at her church by reading a story from the bible. She has been reading with confidence in front of hundreds of people and has been doing a really great job! Keep it up Gabbie!

BHS

June 3 – Nathan Yadav (1L) loves to cook and makes dinner once a week. His specialty is spaghetti with roasted sausage and pesto sauce. Watch out master chef! Keep it up Nathan!

BHS

Action in the PYP is when students are inspired through their learning and their experiences to make a difference to their lives or the community connected to real life issues and opportunities.  We would like to celebrate our students taking action outside of school.

Please email examples to kannis.tsui@bhs.edu.hk, and they will share through our newsletter.

BHS

There are different types of Action.  Last time a description of how ‘participation’ is a form of action was given, below is an description of how advocacy is a form of action.

Mandarin Club

This Friday, 7 June, is a traditional Chinese holiday, the Dragon Boat Festival or 端午节 in Chinese. Do you know why it is called the Dragon Boat Festival or its Chinese name 端午?What people usually do on this day? There is a famous Chinese food associated with this festival and can you guess what it is? Also, can you name a few things people may enjoy doing during this festival? We would love to hear how your family celebrate this holiday in our Mandarin Club this coming Monday. We will also show an interesting video about the Dragon Boat Festival and sing a song together. We will have a lot of fun, so don’t forget to join us on Monday!
