Dear Parents,

I hope those of you who came to the Maths Evening presented by Professor Peter Sullivan found the event informative and helpful. It has been fascinating observing the lessons he has demonstrated this week in school with the teachers and students. He will be back in school next week. This work will be ongoing with all of our teachers. The presentation he used is available on our school website – https://www.beaconhill.edu.hk/presentations-page/

This morning 2D treated us to a wonderful assembly, sharing their learning about how the choices people make can impact the environment.  They were particularly interested in the impact plastic can have on our seas and the danger this is causing our sea creatures.  Well done 2D for sharing the very important messages of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle with our school.

Our annual PTA Disco is going to take place on two consecutive afternoons. Thursday 30th November will be for children in Years 1 to 3 and Friday 1st December will be for children in Years 4 to 6. As part of our recognition of the 50th anniversary of BHS we would like ALL the children to come dressed in 60s fashion on the day of their disco, even if they are not attending the disco. You may be able to get some inspiration from the internet – https://www.megafancydress.co.uk/kids-costumes-1960s-costumes/

As you may know the ESF 50th Gala Dinner has regrettably had to be cancelled. ESF is looking to plan an alternative event in term two.

Our choir is performing this evening in Star Street, Wanchai at 6pm (NOT 6.30pm as indicated on the poster) and on Saturday at Elements at 2.30pm. These performances are just the first of many. Please see the dates and times below.

IMPORTANT DATES

Our Chamber Choir has been rehearsing hard for many performances in several Hong Kong shopping malls in the next 4 weeks. I hope you get time to watch and support them. The dates and venues are listed here:

A reminder of our upcoming events to mark the BHS 50th Anniversary:

Great BHS Christmas Bake Off

14th December 2017

Our Great Beacon Hill Bake Off will take place on Thursday 14th December. To take part, you need to bake a cake / some cakes, cookies, gingerbread houses, mince pies etc etc at home which you are happy to donate and deliver them to school on the morning of 14th December when they will be judged by a team of ‘highly qualified’ tasters. All of the cakes will then be on display and available for sale that evening at the Christmas Concert and the winner will be announced. Please make sure your entry is clearly labelled and any containers you send your cakes in have your child’s name and class marked on them so we can return them to you.

Last Sunday, Andrea Wong (6D), Zoe Deleu (6H), Gabbie Patience (5F), Gingerlily Mohammed (5C), Kirsten Wong (3F), Sofie Yeung (5C), Connor Yip (6D) and Brandon Yip (6Y) were part of the Lisa B Academy of Jazz performance at Disneyland. Green Team

The caretakers have now finished the construction of six new raised beds for our Butterfly Garden. Thank you to Ms Kitty Leung, mum of Justin Lee, 6Y who donated the pallets we made the beds with.

Our Year One and Year Six students then took time last week to fill the beds with soil and the Year Ones and Green Team have already planted basil, tomato and chilli plants.

As you can see it has been a real team effort but is a project we would not have been able to do without the hard work of Peter Wong, Ah On ( Tse Shu On) and Ah Chung (Tsang Kwong Chung) our talented caretakers who took time out of their busy day to build our wooden beds.

Thank you to everyone who has helped get us this far and I look forward to seeing our students using the beds and the plants that we will grow.

ICHK HLY Football Tournament

On Monday 20th the boys ‘A’ and ‘B’ football teams participated in the ICHK HLY football tournament. The ‘A’ team won two and lost two of their group games and finished third in their group which meant they qualified for the Plate. In the plate semis they played well and if we had some one of our earlier chances the result might have been different but unfortunately we lost 3 nil. The ‘B’ team were in a tough group and played well in all their matches. They qualified for the shield semi where they played their best football in a 5 nil win over Kellett. In the final against Quarry Bay we played well in a 2 nil loss.

Thanks to the wonderful support of the parents who attended the tournament.

Thanks to Dylan’s mum for taking photos on the day. Photos can be viewed HERE.

HEALTH

CHICKENPOX

One student is on sick leave diagnosed with this communicable disease on Wednesday, 22 November 2017.  The child is resting at home and will resume school as per doctor’s advice.

Common symptoms include low-grade fever, loss of appetite, a skin rash on scalp and body, face and lower limbs with (itchy) vesicles.

If the child develops a skin rash, itchy or not, and if you are in doubt about what the rash is, please seek prompt medical advice, receive prescribed treatment (if applicable) and to rest at home until s/he fully recovers.

If the child is confirmed with chickenpox, please be excluded from school until advised by the doctor in order to prevent the spread of this disease to others.

Please closely monitor other children in the family.

Always Keep Hands Clean.

Thank you.

Ms Chen
